Thursday 30th

Deans Lane: 2 Woodlarks flew west at 08:50.

Watermead CP North: Marsh Harrier again near Crake hide at 08:45.

Cossington Meadows: Hobby & Little Egret, Hobley Lake.

Wednesday 29th

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes still in South Arm 3.

Stoughton Airfield: Whinchat & 2 Wheatears on south-east side.

Watermead CP South: juv Arctic Tern still.

Tuesday 28th

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope in the middle of South Arm 3 - very distant from anywhere, but probably closest from Lapwing hide. Also 7 Little Gulls there + Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes still.

Eyebrook Res: juv Curlew Sandpiper at the island.

Watermead CP South: juv Arctic Tern still.

Redwings reported at several sites in the last few days.

Sunday 26th

Several flocks of Pink-footed Geese noted flying east this morning: 13 over Deans Lane at 09:00 and 145 at 09:30; c160 (possibly the two earlier flocks joined up?) over Watermead CP South at around 09:45; c60 over Long Clawson at 09:30, and 120+ over South Arm 3, Rutland Water at 10:15.

Cropston Res: report of an Arctic Skua briefly at 09:15.

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, Fieldfare hide; juv Arctic Tern, Gadwall hide; 3 Red-crested Pochards & 4 Little Egrets, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Curlew Sandpiper & 7 Dunlin.

Saturday 25th

Rutland Water: juv Gannet flew through South Arm 3 at 12:10, heading towards Manton Bay, and presumed same bird in the North Arm at 13:35, heading towards the dam. No sign of White-winged Black Tern today, and just 1 Black Tern in South Arm 3.

Stanford Res: juv Gannet flew south-west at 13:05.

Watermead CP South: juv Arctic Tern still.

Friday 24th

Rutland Water: juvenile White-winged Black Tern, South Arm 3 off Old Hall this evening, also 9 Black Terns.

Thursday 23rd

Rutland Water: 20 Black Terns, Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes still in South Arm 3.

Eyebrook Res: 8 Black Terns, Curlew Sandpiper, 10 Dunlin, 20+ Ringed Plovers, & adult Yellow-legged Gull.

Watermead CP South: juv Arctic Tern still.

Wednesday 22nd

Rutland Water: 60+ Black Terns, 2 Black-necked Grebes & Slav Grebe, South Arm 3; 11 Black Terns, 2 Greenshanks, 13 Dunlin + Hobby, North Arm; 7 Ruff, 1 Greenshank & 3 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 1; Jack Snipe, Red-crested Pochard & Hobby, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: 21 Black Terns, 3 Little Stints, Curlew Sandpiper, 15 Dunlin, Green Sandpiper & Little Egret.

Watermead CP South: juvenile Arctic Tern & Black Tern still.

Deans Lane: Crossbill flew west this morning.

Tuesday 21st

Eyebrook Res: 1 Curlew Sandpiper at the inflow end.

Rutland Water: 5 Black Terns, South Arm 3.

Monday 20th

Rutland Water: Slavonian Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes still in South Arm 3.

Watermead CP South: juv Arctic Tern & Black Tern; nearby Marsh Harrier flew over Watermead CP North at 08:45 and again over the reedbed at 14:45.

Sunday 19th

Rutland Water: Slavonian Grebe, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Black Terns, South Arm 3, also 2 Grey Plovers flew past Gadwall hide heading towards the North Arm at 12:40. Wheatear, Harrier hide.

Willesley Flashes: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.

Stanford Res: 8 Red-crested Pochards.

Saturday 18th

Rutland Water: Slavonian Grebe, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Black Terns, South Arm 3; Marsh Harrier, 2 Red-crested Pochards & 1 Greenshank, Lagoon 3; Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, 13 Ruff & 2 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 2.

Friday 17th

Rutland Water: Slavonian Grebe, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 8 Black Terns, South Arm 3; Little Stint, North Arm; Bittern, Lagoon 3 this evening.

Eyebrook Res: Black Tern off Stoke Dry car park + 2 Red-crested Pochards on opposite shore.

Thursday 16th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern, White-winged Black Tern, 20 Black Terns, Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, South Arm; Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3; 3 Yellow-legged Gulls, Lagoon 4; 3 Greenshanks, 3 Green Sandpipers, Common Sandpiper & 18 Ruff, Lagoon 2.

Watermead CP North: juv Marsh Harrier dropped into the reedbed by Crake hide at 16:00, also Black Tern on the waterski pit & 2 Hobbies.

Saddington Res: Black Tern & Green Sandpiper.

Wednesday 15th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern still in South Arm 3, aso 7+ Black Terns.

Watermead CP North: juv Marsh Harrier flew north at 16:45.

Tuesday 14th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern & White-winged Black Tern still in South Arm 3, also 2+ Black Terns. Marsh Harrier & Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3; 6 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 1.

Monday 13th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern around Goldeneye spit, also White-winged Black Tern, 10+ Black Terns, Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, South Arm 2/3. Juv Marsh Harrier around the Egleton lagoons early afternoon, also 8 Curlew Sandpipers & 15 Ruff, Lagoon 1; adult Little Gull, adult Yellow-legged Gull & 3 Red-crested Pochards, North Arm; adult Yellow-legged Gull, Lagoon 4; Wheatear, Teal hide (Lyndon). The south section of the Egleton reserve is now open again.

Saddington Res: Black Tern, Red-crested Pochard & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Eyebrook Res: Black-tailed Godwit & 8 Ringed Plovers at the inflow.

Sunday 12th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern still in the South Arm + up to 24 Black Terns. NB the Whiskered Tern has recently been frequenting the Lyndon shore (South Arm 2) near Teal hide rather than SA3. No reports of White-winged Black Tern or Purple Sandpiper today. Little Gull & Little Stint, North Arm.

Cropston Res: 1 Black Tern + 2 Greenshanks at the inflow.

Swithland Res: 2 Greenshanks, north side.

Little Dalby: 1 Wheatear.

Burrough Hill: 1 Spotted Flycatcher.

Saturday 11th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern still in the South Arm, mostly off Lyndon, also White-winged Black Tern & Purple Sandpiper still in South Arm 3, also Turnstone on the island, 5 Black Terns & 2 Greenshanks.

Groby Pool: juvenile Honey Buzzard + Osprey over this morning.

Wigston: 2 Sandwich Terns flew over this morning.

Friday 10th

Rutland Water: White-winged Black Tern & Purple Sandpiper still in South Arm 3 - NB Gadwall hide will be open over the weekend, but closed again from Monday. 7 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint, Knot, Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Black Terns & Little Gull at the inflow.

Stanford Res: 10 Red-crested Pochards at the dam end.

Burton Lazars: 1 Wheatear.

Thursday 9th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern, White-winged Black Tern and Purple Sandpiper still in South Arm 3 distantly from Old Hall, also 6+ Black Terns; 3 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 1.

Cossington Meadows: Spotted Redshank on Tern Pool from 08:45 - 09:00 when it was flushed by a dog and flew south-east. Also 2 Little Egrets, one of which has a green colour ring with the letter H in white.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Curlew Sandpiper.

Cropston Res: 1 Black Tern.

Burrough Hill: 2 Redstarts.

Swithland Res: 1 Red-crested Pochard.

Charnwood Lodge: 2 Whinchats.

Wednesday 8th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern, White-winged Black Tern, Purple Sandpiper & 8+ Black Terns, South Arm 3.

Burrough Hill: 3 Redstarts & 3 Wheatears.

Watermead CP South: 1 Black Tern & 1 Arctic Tern.

Swithland Res: 1 Black Tern on the north side.

Tuesday 7th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern back in South Arm 3 this afternoon, also White-winged Black Tern, up to 16 Black Terns & 2 Black-necked Grebes and Purple Sandpiper, Little Stint, Knot & Turnstone on the island. View only from Old Hall, as there is currently no access to Gadwall or Fieldfare hides due to work on the Egleton reserve. Slavonian Grebe, Black Tern, Little Stint, Turnstone & 3 Common Sandpipers, North Arm. Jack Snipe & Red-crested Pochard, Manton Bay; 4 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 1; Garganey, Lagoon 4; 6 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3. Also around the reserve: 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 25+ Greenshanks, 22+ Green Sandpipers, 18+ Dunlin, 13 Ruff & 36 Little Egrets.

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier flew over at 15:30. 2 Curlew Sandpipers, 2 Little Stints, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 13 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper , 1 Little Egret & 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull.

Thornton Res: 1 Black Tern.

Also late news for 26th August: Wryneck in a garden at Croft.

Monday 6th

Rutland Water: Spoonbill, Lagoon 1, but flew off late morning; Purple Sandpiper still on South Arm 3 island; 2 Curlew Sandpipers, Lapwing hide; 8+ Black Terns, 2 Little Stints, Turnstone & 6 Greenshanks, North Arm; 2 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Redshank at the island; Little Stint at the inflow.

Burrough Hill: 5+ Redstarts around the south, west and north slopes of the hill fort.

Stanford Res: 4 Red-crested Pochards, Little Ringed Plover & Common Sandpiper.

Great Glen: no sign of Wryneck today.

Sunday 5th

Eyebrook Res: Gannet reported at 08:30 (no further details, but presumably it didn't linger).

Great Glen: Wryneck again on farm track south of the bypass, at SP659964. Best to park in Great Glen and walk for about a mile along the farm track off Orchard Lane (off London Road, by the Old Greyhound pub). The bird is usually on the path, but disappears into an area of bushes if flushed. Also 1 Whinchat.

Rutland Water: no reliable reports of Whiskered Tern today. Purple Sandpiper on Old Hall side of the South Arm 3 island this evening, also Turnstone & 10 Black Terns; 1 Black Tern, 2 Little Stints & Turnstone, North Arm.

Burrough Hill: Pied Flycatcher & 2 Spotted Flycatchers in hawthorns on the north side of the hill; 2 Redstarts, 2 Spotted Flycatchers & 4 Wheatears on the south side.

Cossington Meadows: juvenile Marsh Harrier over Swan Meadow at 15:00.

Kelham Bridge: Little Stint & several Green Sandpipers from the first hide.

Swithland Res: 2 Garganey & Red-crested Pochard, south side; 5 Greenshanks, north side.

Saturday 4th

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern still in South Arm 3; Little Stint, Turnstone, Little Gull, 5+ Greenshanks, 6 Dunlin & adult Yellow-legged Gull, North Arm; 9 Black-tailed Godwits, Ruff & Green Sandpiper, Manton Bay; 2 Black-necked Grebes, South Arm 3 (Gadwall hide).

Burrough Hill: 5 Redstarts, 6 Wheatears, Spotted Flycatcher & Hobby, also probable Pied Flycatcher seen briefly in the wood at the north-west corner of the hill.

Swithland Res: 6 Black Terns & 3+ Greenshanks on the north side; Garganey & Red-crested Pochard on the south side.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Little Stints, Black-tailed Godwit, 15 Dunlin & 2 Green Sandpipers at the inflow.

Kelham Bridge: adult Little Stint & 7 Green Sandpipers.

Cosby Golf Course: Crossbill by the 17th green, viewable from Shuttleworth Lane.

Stanford Res: 1 Hobby.

Friday 3rd

Great Glen: Wryneck this morning by farm track south of the bypass at SP659964, but no further sign after the initial report.

Rutland Water: Whiskered Tern still in South Arm 3, off Old Hall this morning, but no sign this afternoon; 2 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 2; 2 Little Stints & 5 Greenshanks, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Little Stints, Black-tailed Godwit, Common Sandpiper, 10 Dunlin & Little Egret.

Burrough Hill: 4 Redstarts (2 males, 2 females) in bushes on the south and west slopes of the hill fort below the toposcope, also Tree Pipit, Spotted Flycatcher & 2 Wheatears.

Thursday 2nd

Rutland Water: juvenile Whiskered Tern still in South Arm 3 - showing well from Gadwall hide this evening. 5 Greenshanks, Green Sandpiper & 2 Ruff, Lagoon 1.

Froslesworth Manor Lake: female/imm Marsh Harrier slew west at 17:15.

Swithland Res: Garganey & 2 Red-crested Pochards.

Cossington Meadows: Garganey, Hobley Lake.

Shepshed: 2 Whinchats in field on Hallamford Road.

Wednesday 1st

Rutland Water: juvenile Whiskered Tern still in South Arm 3, usually distant but occasionally showing reasonably well from Goldeneye hide. Also 2 Little Gulls, Turnstone, Greenshank, 3 Dunlin & 2 Ruff; 2 Curlew Sandpipers, 5 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 2; 2 Little Egrets, Lagoon 3.

Watermead CP South: female/imm Marsh Harrier flew south at 09:30.

Swithland Res: 2 Garganey still on the south side.
