Wednesday 31st

Rutland Water: Jack Snipe, Lagoon 3, also Red-crested Pochard, Ruff & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Monday 29th

Rutland Water: Waxwing, Fieldfare hide at 09:50, also Crossbill & 2 Bramblings over.

Whetstone: Crossbill flew south at 11:50.

Newton Harcourt: 2 Swallows this morning.

Sunday 28th

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull, Bewick's Swan & Med Gull, Lagoon 4; 2 Red-breasted Mergansers at the dam.

Watermead CP South: drake Common Scoter still by the island.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: adult Med Gull briefly + Swallow over this morning.

Bardon Hill: 1 Crossbill & 1 Brambling over this morning.

Saturday 27th

Rutland Water: drake Red-breasted Merganser, Lagoon 1 till 13:00 when it flew towards the south arm. Also 9 Whooper Swans (5 adults) & female Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3.

Watermead CP South: drake Common Scoter near the island this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: report of Lapland Bunting, dropped into rough grass near the inflow mid-morning.

Friday 26th

Rutland Water: 8 Cranes flew north over Lagoon 1 at 14:45 (Mike Tew). Click here for YouTube video!

Thursday 25th

Swithland Res: Great Skua still present on the north side this morning till 10:05, when it flew off, also drake Common Scoter still.

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe, North Arm; adult Med Gull, Lagoon 4.

Wednesday 24th

Swithland Res: Great Skua this evening, eating a Lesser Black-backed Gull on the north side, and still present at dusk. Also drake Common Scoter still.

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, North Arm; drake Red-crested Pochard at the dam.

Sunday 21st

Bardon Hill: 2 Ring Ouzels on the mound, also 6 Pink-footed Geese flew north, Short-eared Owl south, 3 Crossbills west & 4 Bramblings over this morning.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Common Scoters still + 4 Red-crested Pochards.

Rutland Water: adult & 2 1st-winter Med Gulls & 3 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Stonechat, Grebe hide.

Saturday 20th

Leighfield: Woodlark flew over calling in fog at 08:15.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Common Scoters & 6 Snipe.

Rutland Water: no sign of Azorean Yellow-legged Gull this evening.

Friday 19th

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull + adult Med Gull again on Lagoon 4 this evening.

Cossington Meadows: Short-eared Owl around The Moor this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: 9 Snipe at the inflow.

Thursday 18th

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull again on Lagoon 4 this evening, also Firecrest reported calling (not seen) in trees south-east of Fieldfare hide at 10:20, and Brambling over Gorse Close.

Wednesday 17th

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull again on Lagoon 4 this evening.

Eyebrook Res: adult Med Gull at the inflow for ten minutes this afternoon.

Tuesday 16th

Swithland Res: drake Common Scoter still from the dam, but distant.

Stoughton Airfield: 1 Wheatear on the east side.

Monday 15th

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull again on Lagoon 4 this evening.

Swithland Res: drake Common Scoter still off the dam.

Deans Lane: 8 Crossbills this morning.

Sunday 14th

Watermead CP South: Rock Pipit flew south-east at 10:15.

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull again on Lagoon 4 this afternoon, also female Common Scoter, South Arm 3 (Lapwing hide); Black-necked Grebe still, Fishponds; drake Scaup & pair of Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3.

Bardon Hill: 5 Bramblings & 2 Crossbills over this morning.

Frolesworth Manor Farm: 25 Pink-footed Geese flew north-east at 07:45, also 1st-winter Med Gull on the lake.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Short-eared Owl briefly this afternoon, then flew high to the east.

Swithland Res: male Common Scoter still off the dam.

Saturday 13th

Swithland Res: juvenile Gannet this afternoon till 15:50 when it flew off, also Common Scoter.

Rutland Water: adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull, adult Med Gull, 3 Ruff & 2 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; drake Scaup & female Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3.

Stanford Res: adult Med Gull roosted this evening.

Friday 12th

Rutland Water: Lapland Bunting, Lagoon 4 early afternoon - seen to land on island 5, but no further sign (John Wright). Also adult Azorean Yellow-legged Gull, Lagoon 4 this morning at least (Steve Lister & John Wright).

Wing: Merlin near Crown Well Bridge this morning.

Thursday 11th

Thornton Res: male & 4 female Common Scoters, best viewed from the east side of the reservoir.

Luffenham Airfield: female/imm Merlin at 10:00.

Wednesday 10th

Watermead CP South: Avocet on pit with island. Still present this afternoon.

Frisby GP: 175 Pink-footed Geese flew north-north-west at 11:40 (also seen ten minutes earlier over Langham), also yellow colour-ringed Cattle Egret in full breeding plumage, presumed to be the Twycross Zoo bird seen at Kelham Bridge last month (in sheep field by Hoby - Frisby road near the level crossing).

Rutland Water: male & female Common Scoter, North Arm, opposite fishermen's carpark; Black-necked Grebe, 3 Ruff & 5 Dunlin, Fishponds; 1 Ruff, Lagoon 4.

Burbage Common: 4 Wheatears in an adjacent stubble field.

Tuesday 9th

Rutland Water: adult Whooper Swan, Lagoon 1.

Burrough Hill: c300 Pink-footed Geese flew south-west at 08:30.

Leicester; 200+ Pink-footed Geese flew high west over Highfields at 08:30.

Monday 8th

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, Fishponds; female/imm Marsh Harrier over Lagoon 1 at 10:00.

Sunday 7th

Bardon Hill: Hawfinch flew north this morning, also 2 Bramblings.

Deans Lane: 40 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west at 09:45, also 1 Brambling over and 31 Redwings + 7+ Crossbills in the area.

Beacon Hill: 2 Wheatears north of the trig point, plus 3 Fieldfares flew west.

Saturday 6th

Rutland Water: 12 Whooper Swans, 3 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plovers & 1 Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; female Marsh Harrier over Lagoon 1 this afternoon, also 1 Hobby, Lagoon 1; Black-necked Grebe still, Fishponds

Frolesworth Manor Lake: 1 Ruff, also Redwing over Frolesworth manor Farm.

Friday 5th

Deans Lane: 4 Crossbills this morning.

Wing: 1 Crossbill flew south this morning.

There is currently a large influx of Jays into the UK. Please send all records of birds in unusual places or obviously migrating, via the usual methods (LROS Recorder or paper record slips - see Bird Recording page for details). For migrating birds, please note the direction in which they are heading.

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, Fishponds; 3 Hobbies (Lagoon 1 & 3); 5 Dunlin & 1 Ruff, Lagoon 4.

Wednesday 3rd

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, Fishponds.

Bradgate Park: 1 Fieldfare.

Tuesday 2nd

Rutland Water: 3 Hobbies around the lagoons; Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; female Scaup & 2 Ruff, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Hobbies.

Watermead CP North: juvenile Hobby by Crake hide this morning.

Measham: Swift sp (probably Common) over Bird Hill early afternoon.

Monday 1st

Victoria Park, Leicester: Spotted Flycatcher by the pond this morning.
