Tuesday 30th

Loughborough: 2 Waxwings in Packe Street at 12:10, also 12 Waxwings at the AstraZeneca site this afternoon.

Ashby-de-la-Zouch: 39 Waxwings in Willesley Gardens this morning.

Cossington Meadows: 5 Bearded Tits still in the Moor Pool reedbed, also a Whooper Swans flew north this morning.

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope still from Gadwall hide, also Woodcock flushed nearby.

Eyebrook Res: 9 Smew (3 drakes) north of the island. nearby, 2 Short-eared Owls at Great Easton.

Albert Village Lake: adult Caspian Gull & 6 Yellow-legged Gulls late afternoon.

Monday 29th

Rutland Water: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull, North Arm this afternoon, also Black-necked Grebe; 6 Smew (2 drake), female Scaup & 12 Red-crested Pochards, South Arm east of Old Hall; Grey Phalarope, Gadwall hide; 2 Common Redpolls with Lessers behind Lagoon 2, but mobile; 2+ Bearded Tits, Shoveler hide.

Evington: Waxwing heard calling in Delaware Road (somewhere between numbers 12 & 16) at 08:20, but no further sign.

Shawell: Caspian Gull & 2 Yellow-legged Gulls on the balancing lake this morning.

Sunday 28th

Groby Pool: 2 Bearded Tits in the reedbed near the site of the old boathouse.

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs still South Arm 3 but mobile; 19 Waxwings Lagoon 1 at 15:00 then flew south; 5 Smew, 5 Red-crested Pochards & 2 Scaup, Old Hall.

Barrow upon Soar: 2 Waxwings still at 192 Sileby Road this morning.

Cossington Meadows: 2+ Bearded Tits still in the Moor Pool reedbed.

Watermead CP South: adult Caspian Gull.

Great Easton: 1 Short-eared Owl.

Saturday 27th

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs still, but mobile; Grey Phalarope still, Goldeneye hide; 5 Bewick's Swans, South Arm 3 this morning, then on Lagoon 3 later; Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; redhead Smew, South Arm; 6 Scaup off Normanton.

Cossington Meadows: immature male Hen Harrier flew north at 09:45, also Bearded Tits heard at the Moor Pool.

Eyebrook Res: 4 Smew (1 drake).

Friday 26th

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs & Avocet still on Lagoon 1.

Barrow upon Soar: 3 Waxwings at 192 Sileby Road.

Eyebrook Res: 6 Smew (2 drakes) north of the island, also Little Egret. Nearby, 3 Short-eared Owls at Great Easton.

Groby: no sign of any Waxwings in Beaumont Green this morning.

Thursday 25th

Bottesford: Great White Egret reported flying north-west over Bottesford at 08:25.

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs & Avocet still on Lagoon 1; Knot at the Sykes Lane end of the dam.

Loughborough: 4 Waxwings at Sparrow Hill, opposite the National Tyres garage at 08:40. Nearby, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker at Dishley Grange Farm (300m north of Charnwood golf range) at 09:10.

Eyebrook Res: 5 Smew (1 drake). Nearby, 3 Short-eared Owls at Great Easton.

Groby Pool: different Common Redpoll with Lesser flock. No sign of Bearded Tit in last few days.

Groby: 7 Waxwings in Beaumont Green this morning.

Wednesday 24th

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs & Avocet still on Lagoon 1; Long-tailed Duck & 3 Slav Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 2 drake Smew north of the island.

Groby Pool: Common Redpoll with 20 Lessers on north side of pool.

Albert Village Lake: 2 adult Caspian Gulls this evening.

Tuesday 23rd

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs & Avocet still on Lagoon 1; Grey Phalarope still between Goldeneye & Gadwall hides + 3 Whooper Swans flew over this morning; Long-tailed Duck, 3 Slav Grebes, Black-necked Grebe, Knot & 1st-winter male Scaup, North Arm.

Cossington Meadows: 2+ Bearded Tits still in the Moor Pool reedbed.

Monday 22nd

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs still on Lagoon 1; 3rd-winter Iceland Gull near the South Arm 3 island this evening; Grey Phalarope, Goldeneye hide; Long-tailed Duck, Black-necked Grebe & 3 Slav Grebes, North Arm; Black-necked Grebe, Whitwell; female Scaup, Dickinson's Bay; also Great Northern Diver reported from Lapwing hide.

Eyebrook Res: drake Smew south of the island.

Wigston: 14 Waxwings in Meadow Way at 11:00 - flew off towards Kelmarsh Avenue.

Groby: 1 Waxwing flew north-west at 08:30.

Albert Village Lake: adult Caspian Gull & 2 Yellow-legged Gulls.

Sunday 21st

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs still on Lagoon 1, also Avocet; Grey Phalarope still South Arm 3 between Goldeneye & Gadwall hides; female Scaup off Normanton.

Albert Village Lake: 2 adult Caspian Gulls & Yellow-legged Gull, also 10 Waxwings in The Close, Albert Village.

Wigston: 7 Waxwings in Meadow Way at 10:55; flew off towards Newton lane.

Cossington Meadows: 5 Bearded Tits still in the Moor Pool reedbed, also c60 Pink-footed Geese flew over the Moat at 12:40.

Owston Wood: 65 Pink-footed Geese (presumably the same birds as above) flew east at 13:00.

Sence Valley FP: 6 Whooper Swans flew east this morning.

Swithland Res: 4 Red-crested Pochards, north side.

Saturday 20th

Rutland Water: Lesser Yellowlegs, Lagoon 1, also Avocet, 14 Dunlin & 6 Ruff; Long-tailed Duck, 3 Slav Grebes & Red-crested Pochard, North Arm; Grey Phalarope, Fieldfare hide.

Eyebrook Res: drake Green-winged Teal.

Cossington Meadows: 5 Bearded Tits still, Moor Pool reedbed.

Friday 19th

Groby Pool: 5+ Bearded Tits in reeds on the north side of the pool but elusive.

Cossington Meadows: Bearded Tits heard in the Moor Pool reedbed in thick fog.

Great Easton: 2 Short-eared Owls still.

Thursday 18th

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope, Fieldfare hide; Bearded Tit, Lagoon 3; Avocet, Lagoon 1/2; 2 Slav Grebes, North Arm.

Cossington Meadows: 5 Bearded Tits still at the Moor Pool reedbed.

Great Easton: 2 Short-eared Owls.

Albert Village Lake: 3 adult Caspian Gulls, 4 Yellow-legged Gulls & 1 Med Gull.

Ellistown: Woodcock flew over road between Ellistown and Bardon Industrial Estate.

Wednesday 17th

Eyebrook Res: 1st-winter Little Gull by the island for 10 minutes till 11:55 when it flew off north.

Tuesday 16th

Cossington Meadows: 4+ Bearded Tits still at the Moor Pool.

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope still in South Arm 3 but mobile; several Bearded Tits, Lagoon 3; 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck, 3 Slav Grebes, Black-necked Grebe, redhead Smew & 10 Red-crested Pochards, North Arm; Avocet, Lagoon 1/2; redhead Smew off Normanton Church.

Monday 15th

Cossington Meadows: 5 Bearded Tits (3 males & 2 females) in the Moor Pool reedbed this morning.

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope still, Greenbank, also Water Pipit (flew towards lagoons); Long-tailed Duck, 2 Slav Grebes & 2 Red-crested Pochards, North Arm; Red-throated Diver Normanton/Whitwell; Avocet, Lagoon 1; Grey Plover, Lagoon 4.

Great Easton: 4 Short-eared Owls back at the usual site. turn right down the dead end road by the recycling bins (I assume they're still there!) just east of the village. N.B. If visiting, please keep strictly to the footpaths, or news will be withheld in future. The birds have been showing well near the parking area at the end of the road.

Wigston: 11 Waxwings around the Carlton Drive area (between Aylestone Lane and Leicester Road), early afternoon.

Sunday 14th

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope off 'Green bank' (north-east shore of South Arm 3, about half a mile north-west of Old Hall); drake Green-winged Teal, Fieldfare hide; Red-throated Diver off Normanton; 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; Avocet, Lagoon 1.

Watermead CP North: 4 Waxwings flew towards Birstall at 11:30.

Melton Mowbray: 11 Waxwings in Norfolk Drive this morning.

Groby: Waxwing in Beaumont Green this morning.

Saturday 13th

Watermead CP South: juvenile Skua sp briefly at c15:30, then flew north.

Brascote Pits: Bearded Tit again in the reedbed this morning. No sign this afternoon, but 3 bramblings present.

Rutland Water: 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck + 2 Slavonian Grebes, North Arm.

Shawell Tip/Balancing Lake: adult Caspian Gull & 5+ Yellow-legged Gulls.

Friday 12th

Brascote Pits: Bearded Tit in the reedbed this morning - view from where the footpath turns 90 degrees to the right.

Leicester: 6+ Waxwings at the junction of Hinckley Road & Fosse Road at c13:00, but no sign later on.

Rutland Water: drake Green-winged Teal & Avocet, Lagoon 1; 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck, Black-necked Grebe & 2 Slavonian Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Common Scoter off the dam.

Wednesday 10th

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck, North Arm, between Burley Fishponds and Barnsdale, also Black-necked Grebe there; Avocet still on Lagoon 3; female Common Scoter at the dam; Red-throated Diver still off Normanton.

Tuesday 9th

Rutland Water: drake Green-winged Teal again on Lagoon 1; Avocet, Lagoon 3; Red-throated Diver & 3 Scaup off Normanton.

Eyebrook Res: female/imm Common Scoter off the fishing lodge this morning.

Monday 8th

Grove Park, Enderby: 1 Woodcock flew over the Marriott Hotel this evening.

Sunday 7th

Rutland Water: 2 Waxwings in bushes behind the dam briefly at 08:30, but no sign of Snow Bunting today. 5 Bearded Tits still from Shoveler hide; Slavonian Grebe, North Arm.

Wigston: 5 Waxwings in a garden on Carlton Drive for ten minutes from 13:30, then flew off.

Saturday 6th

Rutland Water: Snow Bunting half way along the dam this morning at least, but no sign of Grey Phalarope (unconfirmed report from Gadwall hide). 4 Bearded Tits still from Shoveler hide, Lagoon 3; Red-throated Diver still in Normanton harbour.

Friday 5th

Rutland Water: drake Green-winged Teal, Lagoon 1, from the Egleton Birdwatching Centre, still present late morning at least; Grey Phalarope still showing well at the north end (Sykes Lane car park) of the dam, also Slavonian Grebe there.

Albert Village Lake: adult Caspian Gull & 2 Yellow-legged Gulls.

Glenfield: 3 Waxwings flew over.

Thursday 4th

Rutland Water: Grey Phalarope at the north end of the dam.

Albert Village Lake: 2 adult Caspian Gulls.

Wednesday 3rd

Rutland Water: Red-throated Diver still off Normanton Fishing Lodge/Church, sometimes in the 'harbour' and very close in. Slavonian Grebe, Black-necked Grebe, 2 Red-crested Pochards & juv LRP still, North Arm.

Tuesday 2nd

Rutland Water: Red-throated Diver still off Normanton this morning, but no sign of the Grey Phalarope. Also no sign of any Bearded Tits on Lagoon 3 today. Black-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 4 Red-crested Pochards & very late juv Little Ringed Plover, North Arm; 3 Scaup, Whitwell Creek.

No news either way on the probable Rough-legged Buzzard at Swithland Res today.

Monday 1st

Swithland Res: probable Rough-legged Buzzard over Buddon Wood/Quarry at 14:55.

Rutland Water: Crane flew east over Normanton car park at c.14:15 - it appeared to be coming down, but no further reports. Grey Phalarope 400 yards west of Normanton Church; 3 Bearded Tits, Shoveler hide this morning, plus a very late Reed Warbler.

Narborough: Waxwing reported this morning.

Albert Village Lake: Med Gull & Yellow-legged Gull.

Shawell Balancing Pool: 2 Yellow-legged Gulls.
