Quail still singing between Ravenstone and Normanton this afternoon, in rough grass around the large pit.

Rutland Water: 4 Sanderlings, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Sanderling at the inflow.

Monday 30th

Bosworth Water Park: Quail singing in fields behind the campsite early morning.

Rutland Water: 12+ Sanderlings & 6 Turnstones, Lagoon 4.

Sunday 29th

Quail singing between Ravenstone and Normanton this morning, around the old opencast site, also 2 Dunlins on the pit there.

Rutland Water: 9 Sanderlings, 2 Turnstones, Black Tern, 1st-summer Little Gull, 3 Avocets & 40+ Dunlins, Lagoon 4; 2 Avocets, Lagoon 3; Sanderling few past Lapwing hide (South Arm 3).

Friday 27th

Rutland Water: 5 Sanderlings, 2 Turnstones & 30 Dunlins, Lagoon 4.

Thursday 26th

Rutland Water: Temminck's Stint still on Lagoon 4 this morning at least, also 4 Sanderlings, 2 Turnstones, 7 Avocets, 1st-summer Little Gull, 24 Dunlins & 7 Ringed Plovers.

Wednesday 25th

Rutland Water: Temminck's Stint, 3 Turnstones, 2 Avocets, 31 Ringed Plovers & 14 Dunlins, Lagoon 4; 5 Avocets, Lagoon 2.

Eyebrook Res: 11 Ringed Plovers & 11 Dunlins.

Tuesday 24th

Ibstock: Turtle Dove purring at back of Church View this afternoon.

Monday 23rd

Rutland Water: Whimbrel, Turnstone, 2 Sanderlings, 2 Avocets & 25+ Dunlins, Lagoon 4.

Birstall Meadows: 2 Turtle Doves.

Sunday 22nd

Eyebrook Res: 2 Sanderlings & 2 Arctic Terns.

Saturday 21st

Rutland Water: 4 Sanderlings, Lagoon 4; male Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3.

Thursday 19th

Rutland Water: 2 Bar-tailed Godwits & 2 adult Med Gulls, Lagoon 4; Marsh Harrier, lagoon 3.

Wednesday 18th

Rutland Water: 3 Sanderlings, 4 Dunlins & 5 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 2 Avocets, Lagoon 3; 3 Dunlins, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: 5 Ringed Plovers & 2 Dunlins.

Wanlip Meadows: 12 Ringed Plovers & 1 Common Sandpiper.

Tuesday 17th

Eyebrook Res: male Honey Buzzard over east side of reservoir this afternoon then flew east (Nigel Messenger).

Cossington Meadows: Common Sandpiper, Tern Pool.

Monday 16th

Rutland Water: drake Garganey, Lagoon 3; Sanderling, drake Garganey & 4 Avocets, Lagoon 4; 2 Avocets, Lagoon 1; 3 Greenshanks, 8 Ringed Plovers & 2 Dunlins, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Curlew Sandpiper still at the inflow + 1st-summer Little Gull at the dam.

Goadby/Noseley: 6 Crossbills flying over road midway between the two villages at 15:00.

Sunday 15th

Rutland Water: Firecrest singing again 50 yards past Badger hide at 06:00; summer-plumaged Sanderling still on Lagoon 4 (NOT Baird's Sandpiper or Little Stint, both of which it was reported as today), also c30 Dunlins & 15 Ringed Plovers. Several Avocets around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Curlew Sandpiper still at the inflow, also 20 Dunlins & 8 Ringed Plovers.

Saturday 14th

Eyebrook Res: Curlew Sandpiper at the inflow, also 24 Dunlins & 13 Ringed Plovers.

Rutland Water: Sanderling & Arctic Tern, Lagoon 4; 1st-summer Little Gull, Lagoon 3.

Friday 13th

Rutland Water: Temminck's Stint, Sanderling, Turnstone & 20 tundrae Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4, also 5 Avocets, Egleton reserve.

Friday 13th

Ketton: BLACK KITE (first county record) over Ketton Quarry/cement works mid-morning (Tom Lowe). Flew off south, but could easily still be in the general area.

Wednesday 11th

Rutland Water: Sanderling, Turnstone & Grey Plover, Lagoon 4; Avocet, Grey Plover & 1st-summer Little Gull, Lagoon 3; Little Gull, Lagoon 1; 3 Whimbrels, North Arm.

Wanlip Meadows: Grey Plover.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still, also 1st-summer Little Gull & l2 Red-crested Pochards.

Tuesday 10th

Knipton: report of a Crane south this evening.

Rutland Water: 3 Little Gulls & 2 Black Terns, Lagoon 3.

Lowesby: Spotted Flycatcher in Springfield Hill Wood.

Monday 9th

Rutland Water: Sanderling, Arctic Tern & 4 1st-summer Little Gulls, Lagoon 4; 2 drake Garganey, Lagoon 3; 3 Avocets & 3 Dunlins, Lagoon 1; Black Tern & 10 Greenshanks, North Arm.

Cropston Res: Osprey flew over the dam at 19:00. Nearby, Common Sandpiper on the dam at Swithland Res.

Horninghold: 2 Spotted Flycatchers.

Sunday 8th

Rutland Water: 5 1st-summer Little Gulls, 1 Black Tern, 3+ Arctic Terns, Avocet & drake Garganey, Lagoon 3; 2+ Arctic Terns, South Arm 3; Black Tern & 13 Greenshanks, North Arm; 5 Dunlins, Lagoon 4; 3 Dunlins & 1 Common Sandpiper, lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still, also 1st-summer Little Gull, 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper & 3 Dunlins.

Saturday 7th

Rutland Water: Temminck's Stint, Lagoon 1 early afternoon, but no sign later, also 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, Greenshank & 17 Dunlins. Ruff, Snipe hide; 8 Dunlins, Lagoon 4; 8 Greenshanks & Common Sandpiper, North Arm.

Brascote Pits: Avocet in far corner of the largest pit.

Cossington Meadows: Common Sandpiper, Hobley Lake, but no sign of Spotted Redshank or Garganey.

Friday 6th

Rutland Water: no sign of Glossy Ibis today. Grey Plover & Arctic Tern, Lagoon 4; Spotted Redshank, Snipe hide; 2 Little Terns & Black Tern, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper, 2 Greenshanks, Dunlin & Slav Grebe at the inflow end.

Cossington Meadows: Spotted Redshank & Common Sandpiper, Hobley Lake; drake Garganey, Upper Marsh.

Thursday 5th

Rutland Water: GLOSSY IBIS (first county record), Lyndon reserve, late morning, then on Lagoon 2 this afternoon before flying to Harrier hide, where it was still showing well this evening. Also 3 Little Terns & 4 Black Terns, Lagoons 3/4; Spotted Redshank & Ruff, Snipe hide; Turnstone & Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 1.

Cossington Meadows: Spotted Redshank, Hobley Lake, Wood Sandpiper & drake Garganey, Upper Marsh.

Cropston Res: 3 Black Terns.

Wednesday 4th

Rutland Water: Little Tern, Lyndon reserve this morning; 5 Bar-tailed Godwits, Snipe hide (flew off east at 10:15); 2 Turnstones & 1 Dunlin, Lagoon 1; 3 Turnstones, Ruff, Greenshank & 7 Dunlins, Lagoon 4; 7 Black Terns, Lagoon 3; Bar-tailed Godwit & 8 Greenshanks, North Arm + Brent Goose flew north at 14:25.

Cossington Meadows: Spotted Redhank on Hobley Lake + drake Garganey, Upper Marsh.

Cropston Res: 1 Black Tern.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still.

No sign of Temminck's Stint at Wanlip Meadows today.

Tuesday 3rd

Wanlip Meadows: Temminck's Stint (best viewed from the south side of the scrape, looking back towards the church) & Wood Sandpiper still present but elusive, also Greenshank & 2 Dunlins. Nearby, Black Tern, Watermead CP North, on King Lear's Lake.

Rutland Water: 7 Wood Sandpipers still from Snipe hide; Whimbrel, Fieldfare hide/Lagoon 1; 2 Turnstones, Knot, Garganey, 5 Black Terns (also getting on Lagoon 3), 12 Dunlins & 2 Common Sandpipers, Lagoon 4; 2 Arctic Terns, Lagoon 3; 18 Black Terns, South Arm III (Lapwing hide); Bar-tailed Godwit, North Arm, also 11+ Greenshanks around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Wood Sandpiper, 4 Black Terns & 7 Arctic Terns.

Birstall Meadows: 1 Spotted Redshank.

Cropston Res: 2 Black Terns.

Hobbies are now likely to be at or near their breeding areas, so (as a Schedule 1 species) will not be mentioned again during the breeding season.

Monday 2nd

Wanlip Meadows: Temminck's Stint still.

Rutland Water: 22 Bar-tailed Godwits, 5 Turnstones, 2 Knot, 2 Sanderlings, 3 Grey Plovers, 2 Greenshanks & 2 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; 7 Wood Sandpipers, Snipe hide; Black Tern, Lagoon 3; 2 Grey Plovers & 2 Greenshanks, Fieldfare hide.

Eyebrook Res: 17 Arctic Terns, 1 Black Tern, 1 Greenshank, Common Sandpiper & Slav Grebe still.

Hicks Lodge: Short-eared Owl this morning; 3 Black Terns, Bar-tailed Godwit & Common Sandpiper this evening.

Sunday 1st

Wanlip Meadows: Temminck's Stint, also 1 Wood Sandpiper still, 2 Dunlins & 3 Ringed Plovers.

Cossington Meadows: Wood Sandpiper still on Plover Meadow pool and drake Garganey on Upper Marsh.

Rutland Water: 6 Wood Sandpipers from Snipe hide (one of the new lagoons?), also 13 Bar-tailed Godwits; Turnstone, 3 Grey Plovers, Sanderling, 6 Greenshanks, Common Sandpiper, 3 Dunlins & 7 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 2 Spotted Redshanks, 1 Grey Plover & 2 Dunlins, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: 29 Arctic Terns, 1 Black Tern, Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover and Slav Grebe still.

Charnwood Lodge/Warren Hills: 3 Ring Ouzels & Fieldfare still in usual field, also 4 Tree Pipits.

Stanford Res: 3 Hobbies.

Watermead CP South: 20+ Swifts.
