Saturday 31st

Belvoir: 1 Great Grey Shrike still, on Long Lane near the Barkestone turning at midday.

Rutland Water: Willow Warbler singing by Fishponds Cottage.

Warren Hills: 1 Willow Warbler singing this morning.

Cropston Res: 2 Swallows & 14 Sand Martins.

Swithland Res: LRP on north side briefly early morning, but flew off.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl.

Friday 30th

Rutland Water: 2 Avocets, Lagoon 4; Long-tailed Duck, South Arm 3.

Longmoor Lake: 1 LRP.

Birstall Meadows: 1 LRP.

Cossington Meadows: 2 Green Sandpipers; nearby, 1 Short-eared Owl hunting over the island in the River Soar between Sileby Lock & Mountsorrel Meadows this evening.

Thursday 29th

Belvoir: At least one Great Grey Shrike still - this afternoon visible from the footpath between Long Lane and Barkestone-le-Vale (cSK783338). Nearby, pair of Garganey still on Grantham canal north-west of Easthorpe Bridge this morning at least.

Wednesday 28th

Belvoir: 2 Great Grey Shrikes still (seen simultaneously this morning) - one on Long Lane and one near the ruined barns on Wood Lane. Nearby, pair of Garganey still on the Grantham Canal north-west of Easthorpe Bridge.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Avocets opposite Stoke Dry, on the Leics bank this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Spotted Redshank & 3 Ruff, Lagoon 4; 1 Ruff, Lagoon 1.

Thurcaston: House Martin near the Wheatsheaf pub this morning.

Tuesday 27th

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike still, Long Lane, but mobile and often distant. nearby, pair of Garganey still on the Grantham Canal, nort-west of Easthorpe Bridge.

Cropston Res: 5 adult Little Gulls.

Rutland Water: Spotted Redshank & Ruff, Lagoon 4; Short-eared Owl, Harrier hide.

Burton Lazars: 4 Short-eared Owls.

Monday 26th

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike still, Long Lane; also a second bird c 3/4 of a mile west, on Wood Lane (next turning on right after Plungar turning), SK792335, in hedge just past the ruined barn on the left, heading towards Branston. Nearby, 2 Garganey (for their third day) on the Grantham Canal, 100 yards north-west of Easthorpe Bridge.

Rutland Water: Avocet, Lagoon 1, also Short-eared Owl, Harrier hide.

Burton Lazars: still 1 Short-eared Owl.

Beacon Hill: 1 Swallow.

Kibworth Springs Golf Course: 3 Sand Martins.

Sunday 25th

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike still, Long Lane. Highgate Lane area, but mobile.

Albert Village Tip: 3rd-winter Iceland Gull, also Sand Martin over the lake.

Rutland Water: adult Whooper Swan, North Arm.

Burton Lazars: 2 Short-eared Owls.

Saturday 24th

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike still this morning at least.

Stanford Res: Yellow Wagtail and 2 White Wagtails reported - not sure if they were actually in the Leics half though!

Shawell: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull on A5 pools this afternoon.

Albert Village Tip: 3rd-winter Iceland Gull this morning.

Friday 23rd

Shawell: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull on A5 pools.

Wanlip North Lakes: Tundra Bean Goose & 19 White-fronts still.

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck, South Arm 3; Short-eared Owl & Ringed Plover, Kingfisher hide.

Watermead CP South: juv Whooper Swan still.

Eyebrook Res: White Wagtail & Dunlin.

Thursday 22nd

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike still this morning, on Highgate Lane (the road to Plungar off Long Lane).

Albert Village Tip: 3rd-winter Iceland Gull early afternoon.

Watermead CP South: juv Whooper Swan still.

Wednesday 21st

Near Plungar: Great Grey Shrike c2.5 miles north-east of Harby at c. SK780333. Going east along Long Lane, the bird was in a dead tree in a field on the left of the road, three fields past the turning for Plungar. Still present this evening, but had been mobile earlier.

Eyebrook Res: Iceland Gull now (considered to be a bleached 1st-winter) north of the island late afternoon.

Rutland Water: Iceland Gull at Lyndon this evening.

Tuesday 20th

Rutland Water: Rock Pipit at the dam; Swallow off Normanton Church; 1st/2nd-winter and 3rd-winter Iceland Gulls in South Arm roost this evening; Long-tailed Duck still North Arm; 5 Scaup off Old Hall.

Eyebrook Res: 1st/2nd-winter Iceland Gull till 16:50 when it flew towards Rutland Water; 2 Little Ringed Plovers & 2 Short-eared Owls.

Wanlip North Lakes: Tundra Bean Goose & 19 White-fronts still.

Hallaton: Merlin + 3 Short-eared Owls off the Goadby Road this afternoon.

Bottesford: Short-eared Owl in setaside field north-east of Easthorpe Bridge at 15:20.

Beacon Hill: 13+ Wheatears in field west of the summit, also possible Common Redpoll with Lessers in larches north of the summit.

Stoughton Airfield: 2 Wheatears still south of the airfield.

Monday 19th

Shawell A5 Pools: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull, 12 - 12.30 at least.

Eyebrook Res: 1st/2nd-winter Iceland Gull till 17:45, when it flew towards Rutland Water, also 6 Whooper Swans still.

Wanlip North Lakes: Tundra Bean Goose & 16+ White-fronts still.

Hallaton: 7 Short-eared Owls still this morning.

Watermead CP South: juv Whooper Swan still.

Wheatears today at: Beacon Hill summit, Frolesworth Manor Lake and Stoughton Airfield (2 in field on south side, on opposite side of the road to the airfield).

Rutland Water: 8 Ruff, Manton Bay.

Swithland Res: Green Sandpiper, south side.

Diseworth: no sign of Black Redstart today.

Also of interest, the first Ospreys back at Rutland Water today.

Sunday 18th

Diseworth: female Black Redstart on the new horse stables in Hyams Lane.

Watermead CP South: adult Kittiwake briefly late morning, also 6 Sand Martins.

Wanlip North Lakes: Tundra Bean Goose & 19 White-fronted Geese still.

Saturday 17th

Eyebrook Res: 6 adult Whooper Swans near the island this morning.

Shawell: adult Iceland Gull on lower A5 lagoon.

Sence Valley FP: Sand Martin though this morning.

Friday 16th

Rutland Water: adult Kittiwake at the dam this morning; Wheatear & 7 Scaup, South Arm; Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm; 2 redhead Smew, Wigeon/Heron hides; 2 Dunlin & 4 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 3.

North Luffenham Airfield: Wheatear & male Merlin.

Wanlip North Lakes: Tundra Bean Goose & 19 White-fronted Geese still.

Beacon Hill: 3+ Bramblings, top car park.

Thursday 15th

Albert Village Tip: 2 adult Med Gulls.

Beacon Hill: 3+ Bramblings.

Monday 12th

Cossington Meadows: 2 Short-eared Owls.

Burton Lazars: 2 Short-eared Owls.

Sunday 11th

Wanlip North GP: Tundra Bean Goose still, plus 18 White-fronted Geese, also 1 Sand Martin & 4 Green Sandpipers.

Saturday 10th

Eyebrook Res: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull this evening, then flew to Rutland Water.

Rutland Water: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull in the roost, also 2 Smew, 4 Scaup & 3 Short-eared Owls.

Shawell: adult Iceland Gull.

Skeffington/Tugby: 4 Short-eared Owls south of the A47 at 12:45, at SK754015.

Burton Lazars: 2 Short-eared Owls.

Friday 9th

Rutland Water: Sand Martin, Lagoon 3.

Cossington Meadows: 2 Short-eared Owls still.

Watermead CP South: juv Whooper Swan still.

Thursday 8th

Hallaton: 3 Short-eared Owls off Goadby Road early afternoon at least.

Tuesday 6th

Rutland Water: Scandinavian Rock Pipit, Lapwing hide; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3; Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm; 7 Scaup, South Arm 1; Black-tailed Godwit, Manton Bay; 34 Dunlin & 4 Green Sandpipers around the reserve.

Shawell: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull on upper lake again this afternoon.

Watermead CP South: juv Whooper Swan still.

Hallaton: 2 Short-eared Owls off Goadby Road.

Eyebrook Res: 7 Dunlin.
