Sunday 31st

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; 2 Garganey & 6 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 4; 1+ Marsh Harrier around Egleton reserve (Lagoon 1 & 3 at least).

Wanlip Meadows: Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpipers, 5 Green Sandpipers, 1 LRP & 1 Ringed Plover.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Dunlin, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper & 1 LRP.

Saturday 30th

Kelham Bridge: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Friday 29th

Rutland Water: definitely 2 different Great White Egrets around the Egleton reserve today, one with much more yellow on the bill, also 4 Whimbrels, 4 Black-tailed Godwits, 16 Dunlin, 1 LRP & 6 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 2 Marsh Harriers, Lagoon 1; Whimbrel & 4 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Green Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin & 1 Ringed Plover at the onflow.

Thursday 28th

Castle Donington: Honey Buzzard flew south-east over East Midlands Airport at 09:15.

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 4.

Wednesday 27th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper still, Lagoon 1; 2 Garganey, Wet Meadow + Great White Egret still around the reserve.

Tuesday 26th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, Lagoon 1; 3 Dunlin & 6 LRPs, Lagoon 4.

It appears that there may have been two different Great White Egrets around Rutland Water recently (the bird on the 15th had much more yellow on the bill than in Steve McAusland's photo opposite) - please note and report the exact bill pattern of any GWE seen if possible.

Monday 25th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret still, also 15 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 3.

Sunday 24th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret still in Heron Bay + Garganey, Wet Meadow.

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint still at the inflow.

Cossington Meadows: Whinchat, Plover Meadow; nearby, 5 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper, Wanlip Meadows.

Brascote Pits: 1 Common Sandpiper.

Markfield: Osprey flew south at 15:00.

Saturday 23rd

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint still at the inflow, also 4 Black-tailed Godwits & 1 Dunlin.

Rutland Water: Great White Egret still in Heron Bay.

Saturday 23rd

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint still at the inflow, also 2 Green Sandpipers.

Friday 22nd

Rutland Water: Sanderling, Lagoon 4; Whimbrel over South Arm 3 early morning + Garganey & 4 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow.

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint & Ruff at the inflow.

Wednesday 20th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret still, Lyndon reserve, also Black Tern, South Arm 1; 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Greenshank & 6 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 1/Wet Meadow.

Plungar: 2 Green Sandpipers by Grantham Canal

Tuesday 19th

Rutland Water: drake Scaup, Lagoon 1.

Late report for Saturday 16th of a Hoopoe at Congerstone, but no further details yet.

Also of interest, a Purple Emperor butterfly in Stretton Wood this morning.

Monday 18th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret still in Manton Bay.

Sunday 17th

Cropston Res: Osprey, also Common Sandpiper on the dam.

Brascote Pits: 1 Common Sandpiper.

Saturday 16th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Heron Bay/Lyndon reserve, but mobile, also Ringed Plover, Lagoon 4.

Friday 15th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3.

Thursday 14th

Rutland Water: Greenshank, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Dunlin & 3 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Med Gull, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper & 2 Dunlin.

Tuesday 12th

Rutland Water: adult ROSEATE TERN, Lagoon 4 on and off from 09:20 till 13:30 when it flew off, then no further sign by dusk. The 4th County record (3rd live bird) and the first since 2004. Also adult Arctic Tern there; 14 Common Scoters, South Arm 3 & 2 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: 9 LRPs & 3 Common Sandpipers at the inflow.

Monday 11th

Rutland Water: Black-tailed Godwit & 3 LRPs, Wet Meadow.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Common Sandpipers & 5 LRPs.

Sunday 10th

Cropston Res: 3 Common Sandpipers on the dam.

Also a male Scarce Chaser photographed on the River Soar north of Kegworth today.

Saturday 9th

Rutland Water: 2 Black-tailed Godwits & 1 Green Sandpiper, Wet Meadow (NB the bird reported as a Wood Sandpiper here over the last few days is a juvenile Redshank); 1Ruff, 5 Ringed Plovers & 1 Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; 1Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 5; 1Green Sandpiper & 1Common Sandpiper, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 7 LRPs, 1 Green Sandpiper & 1 Common Sandpiper at the inflow.

Friday 8th

Eyebrook Res: Short-eared Owl at the inflow from 20:55.

Also some dragonfly news since there are so few birds around at the moment - a female Scarce Chaser was seen on the River Soar near Kegworth today. This is a species which is expanding its range, so may well be present on other waterways in the county.

Thursday 7th

Eyebrook Res: Short-eared Owl again at the inflow at 19:30 then flew off north.

Wednesday 6th

Rutland Water: 17 Black-tailed Godwits, Snipe hide.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Green Sandpipers & 2 Common Sandpipers at the inflow.

Tuesday 5th

Eyebrook Res: Short-eared Owl at the inflow this evening.

Monday 4th

Swithland Res: 2 Common Sandpipers on the overflow.

Sunday 3rd

Eyebrook Res: 1 Green Sandpiper & 5 LRPs.

Cropston Res: 1 Common Sandpiper on the dam.
