Wednesday 31st

Thornton Res: 1st-summer NIGHT HERON at the Stanton inflow end this evening (present since at least Saturday 27th). The first county record since February 1985, and the 9th individual in total. Photos and Listing page update to follow tomorrow.

Loughborough: Crossbill flew south-west this morning.

Tuesday 30th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper still, Lagoon 3, also Bittern, Ruff & Green Sandpiper; Garganey, Wet Meadow; 7 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper, Manton Bay.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Dunlin & 1 Common Sandpiper at the inflow.

Groby Pool: 2 Crossbills.

Brascote Pits: 2 Common Sandpipers.

Monday 29th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, Lagoon 3.

Sunday 28th

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper & Common Sandpiper at the inflow.

Rutland Water: 2 Little Gulls, 1 Common Sandpiper & 4 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 2 Black-tailed Godwits & 3 Ruff, Lagoon 3; 2 Dunlin & 5 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 1.

Cossington Meadows: Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper & Ringed Plover, Upper Marsh.

Brascote Pits: 2 Common Sandpipers.

Dragonfly news: a male Keeled Skimmer was seen in Bradgate Park at Old John Watering this afternoon (Matthew Billings per Ian Merrill) - the first county record.

Saturday 27th

Rutland Water: Curlew Sandpiper still, Lagoon 3, also Wood Sandpiper & Knot reported this morning, Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Greenshanks & 2 Ruff; Little Gull, 2 Black-tailed Godwits & Dunlin, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Dunlin, Common Sandpiper & 2 Green Sandpipers at the inflow; Black-tailed Godwit at the island.

Cropston Res: 3 Common Sandpipers.

Ulverscroft: Crossbill over Priory Lane.

Friday 26th

Rutland Water: Knot, Arctic Tern, Little Gull & 2 adult Med Gulls, Lagoon 4; Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Ruff & 3 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper at the inflow, also 2 Dunlin, 1 Ruff, 3+ Green Sandpipers & 3 Common Sandpipers around the reservoir.

Thursday 25th

Cossington Meadows: 2 Little Terns over Upper Marsh, then flew south at 15:00.

Brascote Pits: 1 Common Sandpiper & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Green Sandpiper & 1 Common Sandpiper at the inflow.

Wednesday 24th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper & Curlew Sandpiper, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 1 Dunlin, 1 Green Sandpiper & 1 Common Sandpiper at the inflow.

Tuesday 23rd

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper at the inflow this evening,also 2 Black-tailed Godwits & 1 Common Sandpiper.

Rutland Water: adult Curlew Sandpiper, Lagoon 3; 5 Whimbrels flew over Lagoon 4; 3 Common Scoters briefly in South Arm this morning, then flew east; Turnstone, North Arm, also 2 Little Gulls, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 5 Ruff, 3 Dunlin, 11 Common Sandpipers & 19 Green Sandpipers around the reserve.

Swithland Res: report of female Red-breasted Merganser at the dam this morning.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Green Sandpipers & 2 Common Sandpipers.

Monday 22nd

Rutland Water: 3 adult Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 1.

Sunday 21st

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Black-necked Grebe still on south lagoon, also Turnstone briefly this morning. Please view this private site only through the hedge from the A5 (taking care on this very busy road). In particular DO NOT walk along the bank between the lagoons as you will flush everything!

Rutland Water: 10 Black-tailed Godwits, 5 Ruff, 1 Dunlin & 9 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; 3 Little Gulls, Dunlin & 10 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpipers & 2 Ringed Plovers.

Brascote Pits: 1 Common Sandpiper.

Saturday 20th

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Black-necked Grebe still on south lagoon, also 1 Dunlin.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plovers & 3 Green Sandpipers.

Rutland Water: 2 Green Sandpipers, Manton Bay.

Friday 19th

Rutland Water: no sign of Pacific Golden Plover today. Bittern, Lagoon 2; juv Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3 late afternoon; 3 Little Gulls, Lagoon 4, also 4 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Ruff, 4 Dunlin, 13 Greenshanks & 12 Green Sandpipers around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper & 3 Dunlin.

Brascote Pits: 1 Common Sandpiper.

Thursday 18th

Rutland Water: Pacific Golden Plover still from Heron hide, also 1 Knot, Manton Bay.

Evington/Thurnby: Whimbrel flew south-east at 07:25.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Black-necked Grebe still on south lagoon.

Wednesday 17th

Rutland Water: Pacific Golden Plover still from Heron hide all day.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Black-necked Grebe still on south lagoon.

Loughborough: Crossbill flew south-west this morning.

Tuesday 16th

Rutland Water: Pacific Golden Plover back on the bund from Heron/Wigeon hides this evening, after no sign all day.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Black-necked Grebe on south lagoon.

Saddington Res: Osprey this morning.

Monday 15th

Rutland Water: PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, Heron hide, Egleton reserve for most of the day, but flew to Shallow Water hide, Lyndon late evening. Also a Crossbill flew over Heron Bay; 3 1st-summer Little Gulls, Lagoon 4; 4 Greenshanks, 8 Green Sandpipers & 1 Ruff, Lagoon 3; 2 Greenshanks, North Arm.

The Pacific Golden Plover is not only the first record for Leicestershire & Rutland, but also the first for the Midlands region. There are very few inland UK records - a couple in Cambridgeshire and that's about it I think. The Listing page has been updated to the best of my knowledge - if you saw the plover but your list hasn't been updated, please let me know. I think I've got most people though!

Sunday 14th

Eyebrook Res: 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover & 2 Green Sandpipers at the inflow end.

Rutland Water: 2 Little Gulls still, Lagoon 4; 5 Greenshanks, 2 Ruff & 12 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Friday 12th

Eyebrook Res: 2 Black Terns.

Thursday 11th

Rutland Water: 4 Little Gulls, Lagoon 4.

Wednesday 10th

Warren Lane GP (north-east of Lockington, off the A50 roundabout): Wood Sandpiper & Black-tailed Godwit.

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Redshank still, also 2nd-summer Med Gull (14:35 - 14:50) & Green Sandpiper. Nearby, 1 Green Sandpiper, Birstall Meadows.

Rutland Water: 3 Little Gulls still, Lagoon 4.

Tuesday 9th

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Redshank & Greenshank.

Rutland Water: 2 Black Terns, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshanks & 10+ Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; 3 Little Gulls still, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 4 Green Sandpipers.

Monday 8th

Eyebrook Res: Black Tern & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Rutland Water: 3 Little Gulls still, Lagoon 4; 4 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshanks, 1 Ruff & 17 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; 1 Greenshank, Lagoon 1; 1 Greenshank, North Arm.

Sunday 7th

Rutland Water: 10 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 4; 3 1st-summer Little Gulls, 2 Greenshanks & 6 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Green Sandpipers.

Friday 5th

Eyebrook Res: 2 Little Terns, 2 Common Sandpipers & 4 Green Sandpipers.

Thursday 4th

Brascote Pits: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Tuesday 2nd

Rutland Water: 2 Little Gulls, Black-tailed Godwit & 10 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; Little Gull, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Green Sandpipers.

Goadby Marwood: juvenile Crossbill on a feeder (bit of an influx going on nationally - birds could turn up anywhere!).
