Rutland Water: adult Spotted Sandpiper still, showing very well from Shallow Water hide, Lyndon reserve, also a Quail seen in flight near Wader Scrape hide at 17:50; Spoonbill, North Arm.

It has been brought to my attention by staff at the reserve that there have been problems with idiots ignoring no entry signs, climbing over the fence from Manton Bridge and walking across the field, flushing birds in the process. This sort of behaviour at twitches is completely unacceptable, and is the main reason why news of many rare birds is withheld these days. DO NOT enter the nature reserve from Manton Bridge - the bird is viewable (usually fairly distantly) from the bridge, or much closer from Shallow Water hide on the Lyndon reserve. If anyone sees any further instances of poor behaviour please make it clear to those involved that this is not acceptable.

Thursday 14th

Rutland Water: adult Spotted Sandpiper still, showing well from Shallow Water hide, Lyndon reserve.

Cossington Meadows: 3 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper.

Also a Pratincole sp reported flying over Sawley towards Church Wilne Reservoir (Derbyshire) this evening. Possibly worth someone checking out Trent Valley Pit and the surrounding area?

Wednesday 13th

Rutland Water: adult SPOTTED SANDPIPER, Manton Bridge this evening. NB there is very limited parking (and limited viewing) at the bridge and the Police will almost certainly tell anyone parked on the grass verges to move - best to park in Manton village and walk. Please take care on the busy road, as there have been many accidents here in the past. The bird may also be viewable from Shallow Water hide on the Lyndon reserve. News on whether the bird is still present tomorrow morning will be tweeted.
