Rutland Water: Bar-tailed Godwit still on Egleton reserve, also 7 Smew; Black-throated & Great Northern Divers off the dam plus Black Redstart still; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm.

Wednesday 29th

Rutland Water: Bar-tailed Godwit on Wet Meadow from Snipe hide.

Tuesday 28th

Rutland Water: Bar-tailed Godwit flew south over Lagoon 3; Short-eared Owl, Lagoon 1; 2 Long-tailed Ducks & 3 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm; 2 Scaup, South Arm off Gibbets Gorse; + 7 Smew (4 males), Lagoons 2/3.

Monday 27th

Saltby: Great Grey Shrike again along the minor road north-east of the village this morning.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck back at the fishing lodge.

Rutland Water: 2 Long-tailed Ducks & 1 Black-necked Grebe, North Arm; 2 Grey Plovers, Lagoon 1; 8 Smew (5 drakes), Lagoons 2/3.

Swithland Res: 5 Scaup still off the dam.

Sunday 26th

Ellistown: 2 Jack Snipe flushed from flooded field at Ellistown pit banks this morning.

Rutland Water: 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 3 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm.

Saturday 25th

Saltby: Great Grey Shrike again along the minor road to Hungerton this morning but mobile, and no sign this afternoon.

Stapleford: female/imm Merlin flew over Cuckoo Hill, just south of the village.

Rutland Water: Black-throated & Great Northern Divers off the dam, also Black Redstart still at the south end; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 3 drake Smew, Lagoon 2.

Stanford Res: female Red-breasted Merganser from the hide.

Barrow-upon-Soar: Siberian Chiffchaff still, between the sewage works and Pillings Lock (also 4 nominate Chiffchaffs).

Eyebrook Res: no sign of Ring-necked Duck today; 2 Smew (drake off the dam & redhead SW of the island).

Friday 24th

Saltby: Great Grey Shrike again along the minor road to Hungerton, c. 1/2 mile NE of the village at c. SK858273.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck back at the fishing lodge today (having been absent since the 12th), also Merlin along Alec Lane (the road leading up the hill south-west away from the reservoir towards the Great Easton road) and 20 Dunlin at the inflow.

Rutland Water: 2 Long-tailed Ducks still, North Arm; 6 Smew (2 drakes), Lagoon 2.

Swithland Res: 5 Scaup still off the dam.

Thursday 23rd

Swithland Res: 5 Scaup still off the dam.

Cropston Res: no sign of Slav Grebe today.

Wednesday 22nd

Cropston Res: Slav Grebe at the dam this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Siberian Chiffchaff at Whitwell, along the path that runs from the car park down to the North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 6 Smew (3 drakes) at the inflow, also 8 Dunlin.

Swithland Res: 4 Scaup off the dam.

Tuesday 21st

Saltby: Great Grey Shrike relocated 1/4 mile north-east of the village along the minor road to Hungerton, c. SK853268. Still present early afternoon, but mobile.

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver & Great Northern Diver off Whitwell this afternoon; Siberian Chiffchaff still behind the dam & Black Redstart still at the south end; 2 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Bittern & 5 Smew, Lagoon 3; 22 Bramblings left the Burley Fishponds roost.

Eyebrook Res: 5 Smew (3 drakes), 10 Dunlin & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Monday 20th

Croxton Kerrial: Great Grey Shrike this morning just south of Hungerton Road at c. SK863294. The grid reference given is right on the boundary with Lincolnshire, so the bird could have been in either county, or both if it was moving around.

Rutland Water: 11 Whooper Swans, North Arm mid morning, also 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes there; Black-throated Diver, Whitwell; Siberian Chiffchaff, Black Redstart & Great Northern Diver at the dam; 20+ Bramblings, Burley Fishponds.

Wigston Sewage Works: female Merlin at 14:00.

Swithland Res: 5 Scaup still on the north side.

Sunday 19th

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, drake Scaup, Black Redstart & Siberian Chiffchaff still at the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 11+ Bramblings came in to roost at Burley Fishponds.

Warren Lane GP: Brent Goose on the main pool this morning.

Wanlip North GP: Pink-footed Goose & 6 Green Sandpipers.

Swithland Res: 5+ Scaup still on the north side.

Saturday 18th

Shawell A5 Lagoons: 2nd-winter Glaucous Gull, also Iceland Gull on the nearby tip this morning.

Albert Village Lake: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull again this afternoon, but no sign of the Glaucous Gull between 13:00 & 14:00.

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver, Whitwell; Siberian Chiffchaff, Black Redstart & Scaup at the dam; Long-tailed Duck & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 9 Smew, Lagoon 2/3.

Friday 17th

Rutland Water: Siberian Chiffchaff still behind the dam, also Black Redstart at the south end & Great Northern Diver; Black-throated Diver off Whitwell; 2 Long-tailed Ducks, 4 Black-necked Grebes & Pink-footed Goose, North Arm; 27 Bramblings left the Burley Fishponds roost this morning; Bittern, Lagoon 3; 5 Smew, Lagoons 2/3; 2 Stonechats, Lagoon 2.

Eyebrook Res: female Merlin flew over the dam, then chased thrushes in fields behind the fishing lodge at 15:45, but no sign of female Ring-necked Duck today (last reported Sunday 12th January).

Thursday 16th

Albert Village Lake: 2nd-winter Glaucous Gull & 2nd-winter Iceland Gull again around midday.

Rutland Water: Black Redstart still at the south end of the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm, also 6+ Bramblings near Fishponds Cottage.

Wednesday 15th

Albert Village Lake: 2nd-winter Glaucous Gull, 13:35 - 13:45 - also present yesterday, along with a 2nd-winter Iceland Gull.

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver still off the dam.

Tuesday 14th

Rutland Water: Siberian Chiffchaff still in the southernmost line of bushes behind the dam.

Monday 13th

Rutland Water: Siberian Chiffchaff in the southernmost line of bushes behind the dam, also male Merlin there at 13;25, then flew off south, Black-throated & Great Northern Divers (Great Northern later in North Arm), female Scaup & drake Common Scoter; drake Scaup off Normanton; 2 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm.

Sunday 12th

Cossington South Lakes: 21 adult Whooper Swans on the fishing pit opposite the entrance to Cossington Meadows till 11:30 when they flew off west.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still from the hide, in the bay south-west of the island.

Rutland Water: 5 Brent Geese at the dam.

Saturday 11th

Rutland Water: 1st-winter Iceland Gull, North Arm this afternoon (off the end of Tim's road), also 2+ Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes still; Black Redstart still at the south end of the dam, also Great Northern Diver & female Scaup + Black-throated Diver towards Whitwell; Bittern, drake & 2 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still from the hide, in the bay south-west of the island.

Barrow-upon-Soar: Siberian Chiffchaff still at the sewage works this morning, and showing well.

Friday 10th

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver & Great Northern Diver off Whitwell this morning; Black Redstart still at the south end of the dam; 2 Long-tailed Ducks & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Bittern, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still from the hide.

Thursday 9th

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver at the dam; Long-tailed Duck, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck reported still from the hide this morning, but no sign there or by the fishing lodge this afternoon.

Tuesday 7th

Rutland Water: adult Glaucous Gull in Lagoon 4 roost from 15:30; Black-throated and Great Northern Divers, Main Water, but mobile; Black Redstart still at south end of the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm; 6 Smew, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still by the fishing lodge.

Burton Flats: Short-eared Owl this morning.

Swithland Res: no sign of Black-throated Diver this afternoon.

Monday 6th

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still by the fishing lodge. NB there was a large fallen tree blocking the B664 nearby at Stockerston this afternoon and a diversion was in place.

Rutland Water: Black Redstart still at the south end of the dam; Long-tailed Duck & Black-necked Grebe, North Arm from the anglers' car park, also Black-throated Diver reported still at Whitwell.

Sunday 5th

Burton Lazars: female Merlin on east side of Burton flats, towards the Leesthorpe - Stapleford road.

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver still off Whitwell; Great Northern Diver & Black Redstart at the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Swithland Res: juv Black-throated Diver still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still by the fishing lodge.

Saturday 4th

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver still off Whitwell; Great Northern Diver, Scaup & Black Redstart at the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks, North Arm.

Swithland Res: juv Black-throated Diver still off the dam + 6 Scaup.

Friday 3rd

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver at the dam; Long-tailed Duck & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 3 Smew, Lagoon 2; 2 Stonechats, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still by the fishing lodge + 2 drake Smew near the island.

Swithland Res: juv Black-throated Diver still off the dam + 6 Scaup.

North Luffenham Airfield: male Merlin.

Thursday 2nd

Rutland Water: Black-throated Diver off Whitwell, Great Northern Diver at the dam, plus Black Redstart at the south end of the dam; 3 Long-tailed Ducks & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm + 4 Bramblings.

Swithland Res: Black-throated Diver still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck still by the fishing lodge, also 5 Smew around the reservoir.

Burton Lazars: 2 Short-eared Owls hunting over both sides of the road by the pond on Sawgate Lane this evening.

Barrow-upon-Soar: Siberian Chiffchaff still at the sewage works, at the Pillings Lock end.

Beacon Hill: 2+ Crossbills flew over the Natural Playground this morning.

Wednesday 1st

Rutland Water: 1st-winter Kittiwake, North Arm, also Long-tailed Duck & 3 Black-necked Grebes. 2 Common Redpolls, Lagoon 8.

Swithland Res: juvenile Black-throated Diver still off the dam, also Shag, drake Smew & Scaup.

Eyebrook Res: female Ring-necked Duck from the hide this morning.
