Thurmaston: 60 Waxwings in Church Road by Percy Martin's warehouse this afternoon.

Tuesday 29th

Rutland Water: Hawfinch again between Egleton car park & Lagoon 2, but mobile; Long-tailed Duck & Slav Grebe, North Arm, east of anglers' car park (which is currently closed); Great Northern Diver, Whitwell; Red-breasted Merganser, South Arm 3/1; 8 Smew (1 drake), Lagoon 3 and another drake in Manton Bay; drake Scaup, fishponds & 2 females South Arm 1; single Bramblings on Egleton feeders and at Lyndon; 8 Dunlin, South Arm 2.

Eyebrook Res: 9 Smew (5 drakes) in bay by the fishing lodge.

Waxwings:

Thurmaston: 25 still in Church Hill Road outside Percy Martins warehouse.

Coalville: 8 in Greenhill Road, 09:30 - 11:15

Monday 28th

Rutland Water: Hawfinch again north of Egleton car park at 12:10, also male Brambling; Red-breasted Merganser, Lagoon 1; Long-tailed Duck, South Arm; 8 Smew (1 drake), lagoon 3.

Swithland Res: female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Great Glen: adult Med Gull flew over at 14:00.

Thurmaston: 8 Waxwings still in Church Hill Road, 14:15 - 15:30 at least.

Sunday 27th

Swithland Res: female Velvet Scoter still off the dam, also 1 Smew.

Waxwings:

Thurmaston: 12 in Church Hill Road this morning, opposite Percy Martin factory.

Frolesworth: 4 by Hollies Farm at 14:00 then flew into adjacent gardens.

Saturday 26th

Rutland Water: Hawfinch back in Egleton car park this morning; Long-tailed Duck, Red-breasted Merganser & Slav Grebe, South Arm 3 (Lapwing hide); male & 2 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3; Stonechat, Lagoon 1; 3 Scaup & drake Red-crested Pochard, Lyndon reserve, off Gibbets Gorse, also 2 redhead Smew from Wader Scrape hide.

Swithland Res: female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: male & redhead Smew between the island and the dam.

Leire: 9 Bramblings south of Stemborough Mill at SP543908.

Waxwings:

Watermead CP South: 12 near entrance to the car park late afternoon then flew towards Birstall at 16:30. Also 5 by Plover hide at Watermead CP North this afternoon.

Thurmaston: 11 in a garden.

Melton Mowbray: 5 in Edendale Road opposite the Cherry Tree pub early afternoon.

Friday 25th

Burton Lazars: Short-eared Owl by the sewage works this evening.

Rutland Water: drake Common Scoter, Gadwall hide; drake Smew, Crake hide.

Waxwings:

Thurmaston: 8 in a garden.

Leicester: 1 still in Braunstone Way c300 yards south of Hinckley Road roundabout.

Thursday 24th

Swithland Res: female Velvet Scoter still on north side, but now off Kinchley Lane railings.

Barkestone-le-Vale: 2 Short-eared Owls again in fields south of the Grantham Canal off Jericho Lane at 13:00.

Albert Village Tip: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull, also adult Glaucous Gull and presumed Ring-billed x Lesser Black-backed Gull (!) on Albert Village Lake this morning.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 40+ in Lansdowne Drive this morning.

Barrow Upon Soar: 15 by Quorn Hall Lodge this afternoon.

Oadby: 4 in Brabazon Road at 08:00, in trees outside number 88.

Wednesday 23rd

Waxwings:

Enderby: 25+ at Grove Park where the service road meets Leicester Road opposite the Park & Ride.

Blaby: 4 in Mill Road near the cemetery.

Syston: 3 in Gloucester Avenue briefly this morning.

Tuesday 22nd

Barkestone-le-Vale: 2 Short-eared Owls in fields south of the Grantham Canal off Jericho Lane, 13:15 - 13:30 at least.

Waxwings:

Whetstone: 26 flew north over Flamingo Drive this afternoon.

Wigston Harcourt: 15 at junction of Foston Gate & well Spring Hill, 14:15 - 14:25, then flew towards Guthlaxton Way.

Leicester: at least one in hedge by Braunstone Way, just south of the roundabout with Hinckley Road this morning.

Monday 21st

Shepshed: 4 Bramblings on the lane to Piper Wood.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 33 near the west end of Parklands Drive, early afternoon.

Boundary: 5 briefly in a garden.

Glen Parva: 4 in Rolleston Primary School car park, Hillsborough Road this morning.

Sunday 20th

Rutland Water: 4 drake Smew, Lyndon. NB do not attmpt to drive down the hill to the Lyndon Reserve!

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 3 opposite the playground in Glebe Road this afternoon.

Loughborough: 1 in Fairmeadows Way.

Saturday 19th

Albert Village Tip: adult Glaucous Gull still + 1 Dunlin.

Swithland Res: female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck, Old Hall.

Cossington Meadows: 10 Black-tailed Godwits (not Bar-tailed as previously reported) around The Moor, but mobile, mid morning.

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 21 around the Jet garage on Northampton Road and the old railway crossing on Scotland Road this afternoon.

Leicester: 12 flew east over Holmfield Road late morning.

Loughborough: 5 in Fairmeadows Way this morning.

Thurmaston: 2 in a garden at SK612096.

Friday 18th

Glen Parva: 24 Waxwings in Swinford Avenue at 09:00.

Thursday 17th

Albert Village Lake/Tip: adult Glaucous Gull again this afternoon.

Swithland Res: 1 female Velvet Scoter still off the dam, also Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in trees by the pipe channel behind the dam.

Rutland Water: 2 drake & 3 redhead Smew, Crake hide.

Wednesday 16th

Mounts Lodge, Great Casterton: 1 Short-eared Owl at 14:20.

Swithland Res: 1 female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Rutland Water: 2 Dunlin, North Arm.

Waxwings:

Blaby: 18 at the Scout HQ in Winchester Road this afternoon.

Market Harborough: 8, Brampton Valley Way, 400 yards south of Scotland Road at 13:30.

Thurmaston: 1 in a garden.

Tuesday 15th

Rutland Water: male Hen Harrier flew north at 09:15; 2 Bitterns & 10 Smew, Lagoon 3; Stonechat, Lagoon 1.

Swithland Res: 1 female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Loughborough/Woodthorpe: 15+ still in Terry Yardley Way.

Market Harborough: 12+ still at the leisure centre this afternoon.

Mountsorrel: 1 flew over Linkfield Road this morning.

Monday 14th

Swithland Res: still at least one female Velvet Scoter off the dam.

Groby: 15 Waxwings still in Sacheverell Way opposite the horse paddocks.

Sunday 13th

Rutland Water: 11 Whooper Swans & 8 Smew, Lagoon 4; 5 Smew (1 drake), Lagoon 3.

Swithland Res: at least one female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Albert Village Lake/Tip: adult Glaucous Gull again this morning.

Thurmaston: Short-eared Owl at 14:30 in fields east of Colby Drive. SK 627088.

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 30+ still in the leisure centre/cemetery area this morning.

Cosby: 19 still in White Barn Drive.

Groby: 18 still in Sacheverell Way opposite the horse paddocks.

Oakham: 1 in Burley Road this morning.

Saturday 12th

Rutland Water: Hawfinch again, Egleton Meadows this morning - bird(s) may be anywhere north of the car park, and there is no regular spot for them - seen yesterday west of the path from the right hand turn to Lagoon 2, c300 yards north of the Visitor Centre; 7 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3; 1st-winter Glaucous Gull in South Arm roost this evening.

Albert Village Tip: adult Glaucous Gull this morning.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Bewick's Swans south-west of the island this afternoon, but flew off at 16:00, also drake & redhead Smew there and 50+ Dunlin & 1 Ruff at the inflow.

Burton Lazars: Short-eared Owl this evening along Sawgate Road, c half a mile north-west of the village.

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 30+ still around the leisure centre/cemetery area, but mobile.

Groby: 25 at the Leicester Road end of Sacheverell Way at 15:30.

Glen Parva: 20 at the junction of Cork Lane and Glenville Avenue early afternoon.

Cosby: still c20 in White Barn Drive this morning.

Loughborough/Woodthorpe: 3 still in Terry Yadley Way this morning.

Friday 11th

Rutland Water: 2 Hawfinches north of Egleton car park; Bittern & redhead Smew, Lagoon 3; drake Common Scoter & 2 Scaup, South Arm.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: Short-eared Owl this morning, and again this afternoon, but covering a large area.

Loughborough/Woodthorpe: 2 Waxwings in Terry Yardley Way early afternoon (SK546175), and 8 in Ling Road (SK541178).

Thursday 10th

Rutland Water: 3 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Warren Lane GP (Lockington): 4 Bramblings & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 43 along Brampton Valley Way cycle path, opposite the cemetery on Northampton Road.

Shepshed: 25 along Jubilee Walk behind Conway Drive this morning.

Cosby: 22 in Croft Road near Road Barn Farm, also 13 in White Barn Drive this morning.

Blaby: 1 flew over the golf course this morning.

Wednesday 9th

Rutland Water: Bittern, 5 redhead Smew & 2 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; female Red-breasted Merganser & drake Scaup, South Arm 2; Long-tailed Duck in bay east of Old Hall; Slav Grebe, North Arm.

Cottesmore Airfield: male Merlin this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: drake Smew & 21 Dunlin.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also Lesser Spotted Woodpecker between the railings and the open wall.

Waxwings:

Market Harborough: 22+ still between the leisure centre and the cemetery at 12:30.

Cosby: 4 still in White Barn Drive.

Tuesday 8th

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck & Great Northern Diver still, North Arm; Bittern, Lagoon 3; female Red-breasted Merganser & 4 Scaup, Lyndon.

Eyebrook Res: 2 drake & 1 redhead Smew, female Scaup off the fishing lodge, 37 Dunlin & 1 Ruff.

Waxwings:

Aylestone Meadows: 32 in car park near Aylestone Mill Lock, off Aylestone Road behind Mr Tyre and the Tile & Bathroom Centre early afternoon (but no sign of redpoll flock).

Market Harborough: 30+ between the leisure centre & the cemetery on the A508 this morning.

Cosby: 15 still in White Barn Drive.

Monday 7th

Eyebrook Res: drake Green-winged Teal south-west of the island, also drake Smew.

Rutland Water: Red-breasted Merganser, South Arm 2 (Wigeon hide); Bittern & 6 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Aylestone Meadows: Common Redpoll again by Canal Street car park, but mobile.

Hicks Lodge: 5 Crossbills this afternoon.

Cosby: 40+ Waxwings still in White Barn Drive.

2 Waxwings between Stretton & Thistleton late afternoon.

Sunday 6th

Ashby de la Zouch: unconfirmed, secondhand report of a Rough-legged Buzzard flying east over the A42 towards Birch Coppice at 16:22.

Albert Village Tip: adult Glaucous Gull late afternoon.

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe, North Arm + Great Northern Diver off Armley Wood.

Swithland Res: 1+ female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: drake Smew still south of the island.

Waxwings:

Cosby: 50+, moving between Lady Leys, Linley Green/Severn Close & White Barn Drive.

Loughborough: 35, Morris Close & 14, Terry Yardley Way.

Essendine: 35+ at Church Farm this afternoon.

Saturday 5th

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still in North Arm from the anglers' car park, also female Scaup; Slav Grebe, Whitwell; Black-necked Grebe still west of Edith Weston sailing club.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also Lesser Spotted Woodpecker behind the dam this morning.

Eyebrook Res: drake Smew at the island; 20+ Dunlin at the inflow.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 70, Morris Close; 50, Freehold Street & 50, Selbourne Street, all early afternoon, but probably some overlap.

Cosby: 50, Lady Leys & White Barn Drive at 09:00, and 35 in Ash Tree Road this morning.

Friday 4th

Rutland Water: Bittern & 5 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3; Red-breasted Merganser, South Arm II; Slav Grebe off end of Hambleton Peninsula; Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; Black-necked Grebe, Edith Weston sailing club.

Swithland Res: 2 Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: drake Smew south of the island; 8 Dunlin at the inflow.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 100+ in Tesco car park, Parklands Drive this afternoon, also up to 52 in Freehold Street this morning & 36 in Queen's Park.

Cosby: 12 near village hall, Park Road/Cambridge Road island.

Thursday 3rd

Loughborough: 34 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west over the A6 near Quorn Borrow Pit at c11:00. Also 72 Waxwings in Freehold Street this afternoon, 50+ around Cobden Primary School, 10 behind Parklands Drive and 6 still in Terry Yardley Way/Ling Road this morning.

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver & Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; Black-necked Grebe Edith Weston sailing club bay; Slav Grebe still off the end of Hambleton Peninsula (west side) this morning, but no sign this afternoon; Bittern & redhead Smew, Lagoon 3; Ruff, Old Hall; c30 Dunlin, Manton Bay.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also Green Sandpiper on the south side.

Barrow upon Soar Sewage Treatment Works: female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.

Wednesday 2nd

Aylestone Meadows: Common Redpoll with Lessers in the wooded rides next to Canal Street car park.

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm; female Red-breasted Merganser, South Arm I; Black-necked Grebe in Edith Weston sailing club bay; Slav Grebe off Old Hall.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also redhead Smew on south side.

Sence Valley FP: 2 Common Redpolls still.

Priory Water: juv Whooper Swan still.

Waxwings:

South Wigston: 45 in Gloucester Crescent at 08:30.

Loughborough: c40 Freehold Street/Warncliffe Road, also 33 behind Parklands Drive in an apple tree in a back garden behind a row of garages - walk past the stables to view, and 20 in Terry Yardley Way/Allendale Road (probably some overlap in all of these).

Market Harborough: 30 near the leisure centre at 09.05.

Tuesday 1st

Sence Valley Forest Park: 2+ Common Redpolls with mixed finch flock on western boundary of the park near Usborne's Pool, but mobile.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch, Egleton Meadows; 2 Slav Grebes, one each side of Hambleton Peninsula; Black-necked Grebe still west of Edith Weston sailing club; Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm; 1st-winter Med Gull, Lagoon 4 roost.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: Short-eared Owl south-east of the lake this morning.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 65 in Parklands Drive near Tesco this morning.

Oakham: 58 in the park by the A606 roundabout at SK867086 this morning.

South Wigston: 30+ by Fairfield School.

Market Harborough: 22 in Ashley Way at midday, also 1 in Shelland Close this afternoon.

Glen Parva: 5 (no details of exactly where).
