Tuesday 28th

Rutland Water: Sand Martin over Manton Bay this morning, also Great Northern Diver still & 4 Red-crested Pochards, South Arm 3, drake & redhead Smew, Fishponds & 2 Great White Egrets around the reserve.

Aylestone Meadows: 16 Waxwings flew over this morning.

Clarendon Park, Leicester: 8 Waxwings again at Avenue Road School.

Church Langton: 4 Waxwings in the village hall car park all day.

Monday 27th

Eyebrook Res: Great White Egret still at the inflow, also 2 Stonechats.

Earl Shilton: 5 Waxwings in the Co-op car park this morning at least.

Sunday 26th

Leicester: 65+ Waxwings still around the junction of Welford Road/Palmerston Way. Also 10 on Hinckley Road opposite the shops near Dunster Street.

Albert Village Lake: 1st-winter Med Gull this morning.

Stanford Res: Long-tailed Duck still.

Saturday 25th

Shawell A5 Lagoons: adult Iceland Gull & juv Glaucous Gull this morning.

Stanford Res: juv Iceland Gull in the roost this evening, also Long-tailed Duck still.

Cropston Res: 26 Waxwings flew north-west this evening, also adult Med Gull in the roost.

Leicester: 50+ Waxwings at the junction of Welford Road/Palmerston Way this afternoon.

Hinckley: 10 Waxwings in Roston Drive this afternoon.

Friday 24th

Rutland Water: adult Kittiwake, North Arm this morning, then off Whitwell; 2 Slav & 4 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm; Great Northern Diver, South Arm 3; 2 Great White Egrets around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Great White Egret at the inflow.

Wanlip Meadows: Glossy Ibis still.

Thursday 23rd

Albert Village Lake: juv Glaucous Gull this afternoon.

Leicester: 10 - 15 Waxwings about half way along Glenfield Road this morning.

Wednesday 22nd

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Smew, drake Scaup & 2 Red-crested Pochards, South Arm 3; 2 Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 6 Smew, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Great White Egret north of the island this afternoon.

Clarendon Park, Leicester: still 20+ Waxwings by Avenue Road School this morning at least.

Tuesday 21st

Rutland Water: 2 Slav & 4 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Great Northern Diver, 5 Smew & Scaup, South Arm 3; 9 Smew, Lagoon 4.

Clarendon Park, Leicester: still 20+ Waxwings by Avenue Road School.

Monday 20th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Slav Grebe & redhead Smew, Lapwing hide; 8 Smew (1 drake) & 6 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Wanlip Meadows: Glossy Ibis still from Plover hide.

Western Park, Leicester: 80+ Waxwings, Vincent Close/Glenfield Road area this morning.

Beaumont Leys: c70 Waxwings, Norris Close, off Calver Hey Road this morning.

Clarendon Park, Leicester: up to 40 Waxwings at Avenue Primary School this morning, but no further sign after about 11:00.

Glenfield: 20 Waxwings in Ellis Park area.

Sunday 19th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver still from Lapwing hide, also 7 Smew (3 drakes); Whimbrel, Wet Meadow; 8 Scaup, Gadwall hide; redhead Smew & 16 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; 3 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Beaumont Leys: 30+ Waxwings, Heacham Drive/Upper Temple Walk.

Short-eared Owl between Great Dalby & Burrough on the Hill.

Wanlip Meadows: Glossy Ibis still from Plover hide.

Charnwood Lodge: 2 Stonechats.

Saturday 18th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver still from Lapwing hide; Bittern, Lagoon 3; 3 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Stonechat near the bridge.

Friday 17th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe & Great White Egret, South Arm 2.

Longmoor Lake: 2 Stonechats.

Thursday 16th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Teal hide (Lyndon); Red-necked Grebe, Old Hall; 2 Slavs, 3 Black-necked Grebes & Great White Egret, North Arm; 3 Smew & 3+ Scaup, South Arm 3; 5 Smew, Lagoon 4; ; 5 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; female Scaup at the dam.

Beaumont Leys: 50+ Waxwings, Oronsay Road this afternoon.

Wednesday 15th

Rutland Water: 4 Whooper Swans flew south-east towards Old Hall at 09:40, also Red-necked Grebe off Old Hall, 6 Scaup, South Arm 3; Black-necked Grebe off east end of Hambleton Wood; 4 Great White Egrets, Manton Bay; Whimbrel, Harrier Hide; 4 Stonechats, Lagoon 1;Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 5.

Glenfield: 80+ Waxwings still around Park Drive/Harrison Close.

Tuesday 14th

Rutland Water: 2 Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm.

Glenfield: c80 Waxwings still around Park Drive/Harrison Close.

Monday 13th

Rutland Water: 5 Smew, Lagoon 4; 2 drake Scaup, South Arm 3.

Glenfield: 100+ Waxwings still around Park Drive/Harrison Close/Pine Road this morning.

Sunday 12th

Albert Village Tip: juv Glaucous Gull still.

Rutland Water: 7 Scaup off Old Hall, South Arm 3.

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe still east of Old Hall, also 3 Scaup; Great Northern Diver, South Arm 3; Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 4 Smew, Lagoon 4.

Albert Village Tip: 2 juv Glaucous Gulls this morning.

Glenfield: 150+ Waxwings still in Park Drive/Pine Road area.

Kibworth Beauchamp: 7 Waxwings in Brookfield Way early afternoon.

Swithland Res: Ruddy Duck still on the north side.

Friday 10th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe & 5 Scaup, South Arm 3; 2 Slav, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 31 Dunlin, North Arm; 6 Smew, Lagoon 4; 3 Smew, 17 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; 2 Stonechats, Lagoon 1 & 3 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Glenfield: 100+ Waxwings in Harrison Close/Park Drive at 13:00, but mobile, with smaller flocks or none there at other times today.

Leicester: (Clarendon Park): 31 Waxwings in an apple tree at the allotments on the east side of Queens Road - no access to the allotments, but viewable from the cul-de-sac next to the old Medical Centre, c. SK600021, postcode LE2 3FT.

Thursday 9th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver & redhead Smew, Lapwing hide; Red-necked Grebe east of Old Hall; 2 Slav & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Whimbrel, Wet Meadow; redhead Smew, Great White Egret & 17 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; Great White Egret, Lagoon 2.

Hicks Lodge: 2 Stonechats.

Late news for Monday 6th - ringtail Harrier sp (presumed Hen) over Woodland Hide, Lyndon Reserve, Rutland Water at 12:00, then flew towards Edith Weston.

Wednesday 8th

Swithland Res: drake Ruddy Duck off the dam.

Tuesday 7th

Measham: female-type Black Redstart near the lagoon at the entrance to the David Wilson site on Dennis Way.

Rutland Water: juv Glaucous Gull, Lagoon 4; Bittern, Great White Egret, 2 redhead Smew & 14 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; 6 Scaup, South Arm 3; redhead Smew, Lagoon 1.

Monday 6th

Rutland Water: 2 Slav Grebes, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 33 Dunlin, North Arm; 6 Scaup, South Arm 3; 3 redhead Smew & 6 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3; 4 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1.

Owston: still c10 Bramblings in the churchyard.

Cossington Meadows: 2 Stonechats in Wood Meadow.

Saturday 4th

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, South Arm 3 from Fieldfare hide.

Burbage: 7 Waxwings still in Rugby Road/Brookside area.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Stonechats at the inflow.

Friday 3rd

Rutland Water: 2 Slav, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Smew, North Arm; 5 Smew & 5 Scaup, South Arm 3 (Lapwing hide).

Husbands Bosworth: 30+ Waxwings flew north across the A4304 between Husbands Bosworth & Theddingworth at 11:00.

Burbage: 7 Waxwings in the Rugby Road/Brookside area.

Thursday 2nd

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe, Black-necked Grebe & Great White Egret, North Arm.

Burbage: 3 Waxwings, Woodfield Road, 09:00 - 09:45.

Whissendine: 2 Bramblings just east of the village in Ashwell Road (also one there yesterday).

Wednesday 1st

Rutland Water: drake Green-winged Teal back in the North Arm, also 3 Black-necked Grebes. 19 Smew (9 drakes) around the reserve.
