Monday 29th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3; 23 Whooper Swans, Burley Fishponds this morning (and 2 still in fields north of Egleton village this afternoon); 5 Smew (1 drake), Lagoon 4; Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & 1 Great Northern Diver, North Arm (all from the end of the road past Fishponds Cottage this afternoon); 2 Great Northern Divers, South Arm + 2 Scaup, Sailing Club Bay.

Eyebrook Res: 8 Smew (4 drakes) still.

Cropston Res: drake Scaup near the boathouse.

Sunday 28th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3, also 4 Smew, Lagoon 4; Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & Great Northern Diver, North Arm. Nearby, 12 Whooper Swans flew over Oakham this morning.

Watermead CP South: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull on the island this evening.

Swithland Res: 11 Pink-footed Geese flew high north over the dam at 08:45, also Scaup still on the north side & Green Sandpiper behind the dam.

Cossington Meadows: Short-eared Owl this evening between Swan Meadow and the main reserve entrance.

Saturday 27th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3 all day, also 6 Smew, Lagoon 4; Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Great Northern Divers, North Arm; Great Northern Diver, South Arm + unconfirmed report of a Hooded Crow north of Egleton village this morning before flying towards Oakham.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl over Swan Meadow this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: 1st-winter Little Gull, 6 Smew & 9 Dunlin.

Friday 26th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3 all day, also pair of Scaup there & 3 Ringed Plovers on Lagoon 4; Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & 2 female Scaup, North Arm.

Thursday 25th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3 all day and showing well from Shoveler hide; Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm from end of Fishponds road; drake & redhead Smew, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 3 drake & 1 redhead Smew.

Wednesday 24th

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher still on Lagoon 3 and showing well at times. Also drake Smew, Lagoon 3 and 7 Whooper Swans, Lagoon 4 early morning before flying off. Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Elmesthorpe: 2 Stonechats by footpath between Burbage Common Road & Elmesthorpe Plantation Wood.

Tuesday 23rd

Trent Valley Pit: Crane circled high at midday, heading towards Warren Lane GP, where 3 Ringed Plover still, but no further sign of the Crane.

Rutland Water: Long-billed Dowitcher, Lagoon 3 this afternoon. Also Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe & 3 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm & 2 Scaup still in Sailing Club Bay.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again near the hide this evening.

Cossington Meadows: 2 Short-eared Owls this afternoon.

Monday 22nd

Wanlip Meadows: Long-billed Dowitcher on the scrape at 08:15, but no sign at 09:00 and no further reports all day.

Eyebrook Res: 9 Smew (2 drakes), 2 Stonechats & 1 Dunlin.

Rutland Water: 2 Scaup in Sailing Club Bay.

Sunday 21st

Wanlip Meadows: Long-billed Dowitcher on the scrape till 13:30, when it flew off, and no further sign.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier west of the lake from 17:10 - 17:40.

Eyebrook Res: 11 Smew (6 drakes).

Cropston Res: drake Scaup; nearby female Scaup still at Swithland Res, also 1 Green Sandpiper on the pools behind the dam.

Kirby Lakes: 1st-winter drake Scaup still.

Saturday 20th

Shawell A5 Lagoons: juv Glaucous Gull again this morning.

Rutland Water: 6 Smew, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 4 Smew (1 drake) in bay south-west of the island; 2 Stonechats & 2 Dunlin at the inflow.

Warren Lane GP: 3 Ringed Plovers.

Friday 19th

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 2 juv Great Northern Divers, South Arm 2; 4 Smew ( 1 drake), Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: 8 Smew (3 drakes).

Thursday 18th

Shawell A5 Lagoons: 4th-winter & juv Glaucous Gulls.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier near the hide lateafternoon at least.

Cossington Meadows: Short-eared Owl, Swan Meadow from 16:00.

Eyebrook Res: 9 Smew (5 drakes), 8 Dunlin & 2 Stonechats.

Tuesday 16th

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again today - NB the car park on Heather Lane, Normanton le Heath will remain open till 6:30 pm every evening for the next two weeks to enable birdwatchers to see this bird, which is usually best seen late afternoon/evening.

Eyebrook Res: Great Northern Diver off Stoke Dry this morning, but flew off north-east at 12:00, also 1st-winter Little Gull at the island and 8 Smew (4 drakes).

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & 5 Smew, North Arm; 2 Scaup, Lagoon 3.

Wanlip North Lakes: White-fronted Goose & Pink-footed Goose still, but no sign of the dowitcher today (or at Wanlip Meadows).

Monday 15th

Wanlip North Lakes: Long-billed Dowitcher again from the wind turbine this afternoon.

Syston: White-fronted Goose & 2 Pink-footed Geese behind the Gate Hangs Well inn this afternoon - NB the road (Fosse Way) is closed for roadworks, but open from the A607 roundabout as far as the pub.

Priory Water: drake Scaup still.

Rutland Water: Bittern, Lagoon 3. No sign of Great Skua today, but 1 Great Northern Diver from Teal hide.

Eyebrook Res: 7 Smew (4 drakes) still, opposite Stoke Dry car park.

Sunday 14th

Rutland Water: Great Skua in South Arm from Goldeneye or Teal hides, also Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier near the hide on and off all day, also male Stonechat..

Wanlip North Lakes: bird reported as a Taiga Bean Goose yesterday is a Chinese Goose x Greylag hybrid. Also 2 Green Sandpipers there but no sign of White-fronted or Pink-footed Geese today.

Saturday 13th

Wanlip Meadows/North Lakes: no sign again of Long-billed Dowitcher. White-fronted Goose, Pink-footed Goose & 2 Green Sandpipers at Wanlip North Lakes.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again between the hide and the car park at 14:30, also male Stonechat.

Albert Village Lake: adult Iceland Gull this morning, also juv Glaucous Gull on the tip. Please note that the tip is private and shold ony be viewed from the bridge or the footpath.

Gaddesby: Short-eared Owl in field along Kirby Bellars road this morning, c1mile from the vilage, opposite Cream Gorse Wood.

Friday 12th

Wanlip Meadows: unconfirmed report of the Long-billed Dowitcher on the scrape at 08:25 then flew north with Lapwings at 08:37, but again no further sightings here or at Wanlip North Lakes for the rest of the day despite several people searching till dusk.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl over Swan Meadow this afternoon.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: juv Iceland Gull this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver, Slav Grebe & 3 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; 3 Smew, Lagoon 4.

Thursday 11th

Wanlip Meadows: unconfirmed report of the Long-billed Dowitcher on the scrape this morning, but no sign when looked for soon afterwards and no other reports today.

Great Casterton: Great Grey Shrike briefly north of the village early afternoon then flew west.

Albert Village Lake: juv Glaucous Gull this afternoon, also adult Iceland Gull late afternoon.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again this afternoon near the hide.

Eyebrook Res: 7+ Smew (3 drakes).

Wednesday 10th

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again this afternoon near the hide.

Albert Village Lake: juv Glaucous Gull this afternoon, then flew to the tip.

Eyebrook Res: 5+ Smew around the res + 2 Stonechats at the inflow.

Wanlip North Lakes: no sign of Long-billed Dowitcher all day.

Tuesday 9th

Wanlip North Lakes: Long-billed Dowitcher again from the wind turbine this evening (having not been seen all day up till then) but distant. Also White-fronted Goose, 2 Pink-footed Geese & 3 Green Sandpipers.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier again from the hide this afternoon.

Monday 8th

Wanlip North Lakes: Long-billed Dowitcher again from the wind turbine, but NB the north (Rothley) end of the footpath is now flooded and impassable without waders, as is the parking area at Cossington Mill. Only access is now from the south - park sensibly near Wanlip Sewage Works (SK598112) or in Wanlip village on the south side of the A46 and follow the footpath north around the sewage works to view from the turbine. Please note that the entire area is private and stay strictly on the footpath. Also adult White-fronted Goose still.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier still.

Cossington Meadows: male Stonechat, Middle Marsh.

Sunday 7th

Wanlip North Lakes: presumed Long-billed Dowitcher again from the wind turbine this morning, then flew towards Cossington Meadows at 11:45. Also in the area, adult White-fronted Goose, Pink-footed Goose & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, Slav Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & Great Northern Diver all still, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 8+ Smew (5 drakes), but mobile.

Saturday 6th

Wanlip Meadows: Dowitcher (presumed Long-billed but not seen well enough for 100% ID yet) early morning, then flew off north with Lapwings. Relocated at Wanlip North Lakes early afternoon near the wind turbine. Park at Cossington Mill (SK596130) and take the footpath south from the A6/B5328 junction towards the turbine. Bird is mobile with the Lapwing flock. Also seen at Wanlip Meadows yesterday, and possibly on Tuesday.

Eyebrook Res: 8 Smew (3 drakes) off Stoke Dry car park.

Tuesday 2nd

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier still, showing well behind the hide this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebes & redhead Smew, North Arm; Great Northern Diver, Whitwell; Slav Grebe, Souht Arm; redhead Smew, Lagoon 4 & female Scaup, South Arm 3.

Ketton Sewage Works: 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs (& 2 Common Chiffchaffs).

Eyebrook Res: 9 Smew (4 drakes) off Stoke Dry car park.

Monday 1st

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier still, then went to roost south-east of the hide.

Groby Pool: adult Kittiwake late afternoon.

Rutland Water: 2 redhead Smew, Lagoon 4; 9 Dunlin, Lagoon 1.
