Monday 28th

Rutland Water: 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck & 9 Pink-footed Geese, North Arm still.

South Knighton: 30 Waxwings again just east of Knighton Park on Ring Road.

Sunday 27th

Rutland Water: no sign of Spoonbill so far today. 1st-winter male Long-tailed Duck & 9 Pink-footed Geese, North Arm, also an unconfirmed report of a Red-necked Grebe which was looked for immediately by others, but not seen. 7 Smew (1 drake), Lagoon 3.

Desford: 21 Waxwings by the library this afternoon.

Saturday 26th

Rutland Water: Spoonbill flew over Hambleton Road at 18:00 and probably dropped into trees at Burley Fishponds (Matthew Berriman); 1st-winter drake Long-tailed Duck & 8 Pink-footed Geese, North Arm; Med Gull, Lagoon 1.

Enderby: c90 Waxwings still by the Foxhunter roundabout.

South Knighton: 14 Waxwings just east of Knighton Park at 10:15.

Friday 25th

Rutland Water: 1st-winter drake Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; drake Smew at the dam & 6 redheads, Lagoon 3.

Waxwings:

Enderby: c90 by the Foxhunter roundabout at 16:00.

Wigston: 30 in Oadby Road, opposite Cheddar Road at 11:45.

Desford: 10 by the library this afternoon.

Thursday 24th

Albert Village Lake: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull still.

Waxwings today:

Barrow upon Soar: 50 in Thirlmere Road.

Enderby: 25+ by the Foxhunter roundabout at 14:00.

Palmerston Boulevard/Knighton Park area: up to 16.

Coalville: 4+ in Avenue Road at 08:30.

Wednesday 23rd

Albert Village Lake: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull still.

Leicester: c40 Waxwings in Chapel Lane (off Welford Road) at 08:40.

Enderby: 20 Waxwings by the Foxhunter roundabout at 12:00.

Oadby: 17 Waxwings by Leicester racecourse at 08:20.

Tuesday 22nd

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still east of Old Hall; 4 Scaup Old Hall/South Arm; Common Redpoll behind Redshank hide; Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 1; 8 Pink-footed Geese, North Arm; 16 Smew, Lagoon 3; drake Smew at south end of the dam. No sign of reported Red-necked Grebe at Lyndon today.

Cossington Meadows: 2+ Bearded Tits still at the Moor Pool.

Enderby: 6 Waxwings by the Foxhunter roundabout on Blaby Road at 14:00.

Monday 21st

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon relocated near Old Hall; Red-necked Grebe, Tufted Duck hide (Lyndon reserve).

Knighton: 40 Waxwings in South Knighton Road.

Oadby: 19 Waxwings by Leicester racecourse at 08:30.

Sunday 20th

Swithland Res: drake Smew still off the dam.

Groby Pool: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker again on north side of pool along stream this morning.

Saturday 19th

Friday 18th

Albert Village Lake/Tip: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull still.

Rutland Water: 10 Smew, Lagoon 3; 6 Scaup at east end of Lyndon reserve.

Thursday 17th

Albert Village: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull on the tip, also 40+ Waxwings still around Occupation Road/Island Close.

Loughborough: 20+ Waxwings in Beacon Road, also 10 at junction of Park Road/Pytchley Drive.

Glenfield: 3 Waxwings still in Mill Lane Industrial Estate.

Shepshed: Jack Snipe flushed from Black Brook.

Swithland Res: drake Smew off the dam.

Groby Pool: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker again on north side of pool along stream.

Wednesday 16th

Birstall: Bittern flew over Birstall Lodge Farm towards Watermead CP at 16:40.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Bearded Tit still Moor Pool, also 1 Dunlin on Tern Pool.

Albert Village: up to 41 Waxwings, Occupation Road/Island Close.

Tuesday 15th

Rutland Water: adult Glaucous Gull again in South Arm roost; Long-tailed Duck, North Arm, west of Armley Wood; 8 Pink-footed Geese, Barnsdale; Common Redpoll, Lyndon reserve, between Wader Scrape & Shallow Water hides; 4 Scaup, South Arm 1; 10 Smew, Lagoon 3/South Arm. No sign of American Wigeon today.

Burbage: 23 Waxwings in Lobelia Close at 10:00.

Groby Pool: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker by stream on north side this afternoon.

Monday 14th

Cossington Meadows: 3 Bearded Tits still at the Moor Pool.

Melton Mowbray: 3 Waxwings in Norfolk Drive at 14:45.

Sunday 13th

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still, Lyndon; 16 Smew, Lagoon 3/South Arm.

Saturday 12th

Albert Village Lake: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull still.

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still in Manton Bay; 7 Pink-footed Geese, North Arm.

Friday 11th

Rutland Water: 2nd-winter Iceland Gull & adult Glaucous Gull in the South Arm roost this evening, also 10 Smew, Lagoon 3.

Coalville: 49 Waxwings ranging between Abbott's oak Drive & St David's Crescent.

Thursday 10th

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still, Shallow Water hide.

Coalville: up to 80 Waxwings at junction of Castle Rock Drive/Grasmere Road.

Wednesday 9th

Albert Village Lake: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull this morning.

Leicester: 25 Waxwings in Nelson Mandela Park, in the corner by the prison at 13:30.

Tuesday 8th

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still, Shallow Water hide; 1st-winter Glaucous Gull in South Arm roost from 17:00; Bar-tailed Godwit heard over South Arm 2; 7 Pink-footed Geese & 1 Ringed Plover, North Arm; 6+ Smew, 2 Scaup & 5 Red-crested Pochards around the reservoir.

Albert Village Tip: 3rd-winter Glaucous Gull still.

Eyebrook Res: 12 Smew (1 drake) near the island.

Leicester: 12 Waxwings in Nelson Mandela Park, in the corner by the prison at 09:45.

Enderby: 10+ Waxwings in Blaby Road by the Foxhunter roundabout at 10:00.

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still, Shallow Water hide; 2 Med Gulls in South Arm roost.

Swithland Res: drake Smew still, also female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker at the house end of the dam.

Whetstone: 7 Waxwings in Victoria Road near the Chinese takeaway.

Friday 4th

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe & 5 Smew, South Arm 3.

Kilworth Springs GC: Jack Snipe on 14th hole.

Glenfield: 30 Waxwings still in Mill Lane Industrial Estate.

Braunstone: 29 Waxwings in Lubbesthorpe Way at 08:40, then briefly in Golf Course Lane at 09:50.

Thursday 3rd

Glenfield: up to 35 Waxwings in Mill Lane Industrial Estate.

Leicester: 30 Waxwings in Langley Walk (off Abbey Lane) at midday.

Groby Pool: adult Med Gull this afternoon.

Wednesday 2nd

Late news for Sunday 30th January: Arctic Redpoll on private land at Kirby Lakes (south of Asfordby & just west of Priory Water. It was looked for on Monday at least, but no sign. If searching for this bird keep strictly to the road or public footpaths, and do not enter any private land. There are some birches by the sewage works (accesible via a public footpath) at the southern end of the site which may be worth checking (NB this is not where the bird was).

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still from Shallow Water hide.

Albert Village Lake: 3 Mealy Redpolls in flock of 35 Lessers, in alders in the north west corner by the houses. No sign of Glaucous Gull today.

Loughborough: 30 Waxwings at junction of Forest Road/Nanpantan Road by the playing fields at 15:00.

Wigston: 35 Waxwings at Guthlaxton College on Station Road.

Tuesday 1st

Rutland Water: drake American Wigeon still from Shallow Water hide, Lyndon reserve, also 5 Scaup, South Arm 2; Long-tailed Duck, South Arm 1, well east of Old Hall; Slav Grebe & 6 Smew, South Arm 3; 6 Scaup, Whitwell.
