Thursday 31st

Eyebrook Res: female Red-breasted Merganser in bay north of the island this afternoon, also drake & 3 redhead Smew south-west of the island.

Longmoor Lake: ringtail Hen Harrier behind the hide at 13:45.

Swithland Res: female Scaup still on the north side.

Wednesday 30th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still, south of the island.

Tuesday 29th

Rutland Water: 4 Great Northern Divers off Whitwell; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; redhead Smew, Red-necked Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe, drake + 5 redhead Smew in the bay south of the island.

Albert Village Lake/Tip: 1st-winter Med Gull.

Monday 28th

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe, drake + 5 redhead Smew all in the bay south of the island.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl from 13:30.

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

South Kilworth: no sign of Hen Harrier today.

Sunday 27th

South Kilworth: male Hen Harrier reported hunting over fields by Kilworth Springs Golf Course/River Avon this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; 2 Great Northern Divers, Whitwell; 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: redhead Smew south of the island.

Saturday 26th

Rutland Water: 3 Great Northern Divers, Whitwell; Red-necked Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe & 5 redhead Smew.

Swithland Res: female Scaup still.

Friday 25th

Rutland Water: 2 Great Northern Divers off Whitwell.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe north of the island + 6 redhead Smew.

Thursday 24th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe & 2+ redhead Smew north of the island, also juv Pink-footed Goose with Greylags in field on the Leics side.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl still.

Wednesday 23rd

Eyebrook Res: 5 redhead Smew off the island; Slav Grebe north of the island; 2 Stonechats at the inflow, also 2 Great White Egrets there briefly mid afternoon.

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm; 2 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1.

Cossington Meadows: 3 Short-eared Owls still.

Tuesday 22nd

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes still, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 6 redhead Smew.

Kirby Lakes: 1st-winter male Scaup still.

Monday 21st

Eyebrook Res: Pink-footed Goose still with Greylags; 1 redhead Smew & female Stonechat at the inflow (Rutland side).

Rutland Water: 2 Great White Egrets, North Arm.

Sunday 20th

Eyebrook Res: Short-eared Owl at the inflow at 16:25; Slav Grebe & 1 redhead Smew north of the island; juv Pink-foot with Greylags in bay south-west of the island, then in field opposite Alec Lane gate; pair of Stonechats still at the inflow (Rutland side).

Kirby Lakes: 1st-winter male Scaup again.

Hicks Lodge: 1 Pink-footed Goose with the Canada flock.

Saturday 19th

Rutland Water: 2 Great Northern Divers off Whitwell; 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1 (and probably a second bird from Gadwall hide); 2 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe north of the island, also 2 redhead Smew still.

Kirby Lakes: juvenile Scaup, then flew towards Priory Water.

Friday 18th

Rutland Water: 2 Great Northern Divers off Whitwell; Red-necked Grebe, 2 Black-necked Grebes & imm male Scaup, North Arm; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: juv Pink-footed Goose with Greylags between Stoke Dry car park & the inflow, also Slav Grebe & 2 Stonechats; 2 redhead Smew in bay south-west of the island.

Leicester: no sign of the Shag along the River Soar today, but it's probably still there somewhere!

Thursday 17th

Eyebrook Res: 1 redhead Smew.

Also late news for yesterday: 1st-winter Shag again in Leicester on the River Soar, under Upperton Road bridge (not sure which one, as there are two - one over the canalised section and another one over the original course of the river c150 yards further west).

Wednesday 16th

Cossington Meadows: 3 Short-eared Owls around Swan Meadow this afternoon.

Monday 14th

Stanford Res: Short-eared Owl between the old railway line and the settling pond at the feeder stream end, usually on the Northants side, but sometimes crossing the river into Leics. Present for several days and often hunting arround the middle of the day.

Sunday 13th

Rutland Water: 4 Great Northern Divers, main water; 3 Slav Grebes & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe back at the inflow near the tern rafts (having not been seen for 8 days).

Saturday 12th

Market Harborough: 6 Waxwings this morning in the park off The Broadway, then flew south.

Rutland Water: 3 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1; 2 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Slav Grebes still, North Arm.

Cropston Res: 2 Green Sandpipers at the dam.

Friday 11th

Leicester: c30 Waxwings in Jubilee Square this morning, then flew south towards De Montfort University campus.

Eyebook Res: 2 redhead Smew - one off Stoke Dry car park & one in the bay north of the island.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Short-eared Owl this afternoon.

Wednesday 9th

Rutland Water: 3 Great Northern Divers still between Whitwell and the dam; Red-necked Grebe & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm.

Leicester: no sign of the Shag in a search between West Bridge & Freemen's Lock.

Tuesday 8th

Rutland Water: no sign of Black-throated Diver off Whitwell, but 3 Great Northern Divers there today; 2 Slav Grebes & 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm; Great White Egret, 2 Stonechats & 12 Dunlin, Lagoon 1.

Ibstock: Short-eared Owl flew south-east over St Denys Church at 16:15.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Stonechats.

Late news for 2nd December - juvenile Shag on the River Soar at Castle Park, Leicester - photo in the RBA Gallery here (apologies - the initial link was wrong - this one should now work). Worth a look if anyone's passing as it could easily still be there!

Monday 7th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver & probable Black-throated Diver off Whitwell; Red-necked Grebe, 2 Slav Grebes, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 1st-winter drake Scaup, North Arm; Great White Egret, 2 Stonechats & 10 Dunlin, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: female Brambling at the bridge briefly late morning.

Sunday 6th

Rutland Water: 2 Slav Grebes, 2 Black-necked Grebes & 2 Scaup, North Arm.

Cossington Meadows: 2 Short-eared Owls, Swan Meadow this evening.

Eyebrook Res: adult Med Gull north of the island late afternoon.

Swithland Res: female Scaup still on the north side; nearby 3 Green Sandpipers, Cropston Res.

Saturday 5th

Rutland Water: Great Northern Diver still off Whitwell; 2 Slav Grebes, North Arm; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Asfordby Hill: 2nd-winter Med Gull flew west at 08:10.

Friday 4th

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, 2 Slav Grebes & 2 Black-necked Grebes all still, North Arm; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still north of the island + 2 Bramblings at the inflow bridge.

Thursday 3rd

No news reported today, other than negative news on the Glaucous Gull again from Groby Pool.

Wednesday 2nd

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still north of the island, but no sign of Mealy Redpoll.

Groby Pool: no sign of the Glaucous Gull this afternoon.

Tuesday 1st

Groby Pool: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull from c15:00 - 15:55 when it flew off north-east with other gulls.

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe, 2 Slav Grebes, 2 Black-necked Grebes, North Arm + drake & redhead Smew, Fishponds.

Eyebrook Res: Slav Grebe still north of the island + 24 Dunlin.
