Rutland Water: Hawfinch north of Egleton car park; Red-breasted Merganser, Lyndon; Slav Grebe, North arm from anglers' car park; 1st-winter Med Gull, Lagoon 4.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: female Marsh Harrier + drake Smew.

Priory Water: juv Whooper Swan still. View only from the footpath.

Essendine: 7 Waxwings behind the village hall this morning.

Saturday 29th

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm, east of the anglers' car park near a submerged tree at 10:45.

Friday 28th

Cotesbach (Shawell) Landfill: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Bittern, Lagoon 3 + drake & 6 redhead Smew; Red-breasted Merganser, Old Hall.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: drake & redhead Smew still.

Loughborough: c85 Waxwings in Moira Street early afternoon, also 22 near McDonalds in Terry Yardley Way this morning.

Thursday 27th

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: drake & redhead Smew south-west of the island.

Loughborough: 30+ Waxwings in Moira Street this afternoon.

Wednesday 26th

Cossington Meadows: 3 Common Redpolls with 3 Lessers in the north-east corner of Swan Meadow mid-morning. Please note that the reserve is completely flooded - all entrances have deep water, there are hardly any reference points for paths and numerous areas are inaccessible. Extreme care required!

Fleckney: probable Common Redpoll with 7+ Lessers in hawthorns immediately south-west of the Fleckney end of the Saddington Canal Tunnel by large stubble field. Flock was flushed by a Sparrowhawk and flew to Fleckney Millennium Wood on the western side of the field (distant).

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Slav Grebe still in South Arm, close to shore roughly mid-way between the end of the peninsula and Old Hall; Black-necked Grebe still west of Edith Weston sailing club; Great Northern Diver, North Arm between Barnsdale & Whitwell.

Eyebrook Res: 2 drake & 1 redhead Smew at the north end of the dam.

Elmesthorpe: 27 Waxwings in the village hall car park.

Tuesday 25th

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 35+ in Moira Street; 15 in Terry Yardley Way near the Tesco roundabout.

Earl Shilton: 36 in Maple Way.

Thurmaston: 5 in Thurmaston Boulevard.

Sunday 23rd

Watermead CP North: Bittern again near Sand Martin hide.

Rutland Water: Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 1.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: 4 Smew (3 drakes) from the hide.

Saturday 22nd

Eyebrook Res: 3 drake & 4 redhead Smew at the dam end, but no sign of the Glaucous Gull in the roost.

Loughborough: 40 Waxwings at the junction of Meadow Lane & toothill Road this morning.

Friday 21st

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still in North Arm; Slav Grebe in South Arm between Old Hall & Lyndon; 7 redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: adult Glaucous Gull in the roost this evening.

Loughborough: c40 Waxwings in Herriot Way.

Loughborough: 22 Waxwings in Maxwell Drive this morning.

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck, North Arm; female Red-breasted Merganser off Old Hall.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Kibworth: 5 Waxwings in Warwick Road, Kibworth Meadows at 15:00.

Tuesday 18th

Rutland Water: Hawfinch reported back in Egleton car park; Great Northern Diver off Barnsdale; Long-tailed Duck & redhead Smew, North Arm; Black-necked Grebe west of Edith Weston sailing club; female Red-breasted Merganser, South Arm 1; 6 redhead Smew & 5 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3.

Swithland Res: at least one female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Eyebrook Res: 2 drake & 1 redhead Smew.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: Short-eared Owl on the west side at dusk.

Waxwings:

Between Hathern & Kegworth: 50+ still by the A6 near the junction with the A6006 at 11:00.

Monday 17th

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still on the north side.

Rutland Water: 1st-winter Glaucous Gull in Lagoon 4 roost.

Waxwings:

Kegworth: 110 by the A6 1.5km south of the village.

Whetstone: 31 between College Road & the A426 Blaby bypass at 13:05 (SP562978).

Great Glen: 7+ at the junction of London Road and the A6 (SP 66969 96056) at 15:00.

Evington: 4 in Swinstead Road at 08:15.

Sunday 16th

Watermead CP North: Bittern flew in from the north at 14:00 and landed in reeds to the left of Sand Martin hide, but was disturbed after about 5 minutes and flew off south.

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on Kinchley Lane at 15:20.

Albert Village Tip: adult Glaucous Gull again this morning.

Rutland Water: 3 redhead Smew & 4 Red-crested Pochards, Lagoon 3.

Waxwings:

Kegworth: 175 in central reservation of A6 at Whatton Lodge.

Leicester: c40 flew over the Troon Way/Thurmaston Lane roundabout near the industrial estate at 11:45.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: 7 flew west at 08:15.

Elmesthorpe: 4 in the village Hall car park in Wilkinson lane this morning.

Saturday 15th

Swithland Res: 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam this morning.

Eyebrook Res: 3 drake & 4 redhead Smew & 3 female Common Scoters, all at the dam end.

Kegworth: 30 by the Otter pub in Derby Road this afetrnoon.

Thorpe Astley: 24 in Foxon Way this morning

Loughborough: 23 flew over Sainsbury's car park this morning.

Little Bowden: 15 opposite the Cherry Tree pub in Kettering Road at 08:20.

Barrow upon Soar: 14 in Bryan's Close this morning.

Kibworth Harcourt: 2 at the end of Barnards Way.

Friday 14th

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 17 in Albert Promenade this afternoon.

Thorpe Astley: 11 in Lubbesthorpe Way/Withers Way slip road area at 14:50.

Thursday 13th

Albert Village: adult Glaucous Gull on the tip and the lake.

Waxwings:

Barrow upon Soar: 150+ in Sileby Road, either near the Lafarge converyor bridge, or outside no.186.

Leicester: c40 in Abbey Park Road by the flyover this afternoon, then flew into Abbey Park.

Evington: 5 in Delaware Road briefly at 13:25, then flew towards Sedgebrook Road.

Wednesday 12th

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Rutland Water: 3 redhead Smews, Lagoon 3.

Bradgate Park: pair of Stonechats by Coppice Wood, SK541109.

Waxwings:

Barrow upon Soar: 100+ by the Lafarge works this afternoon.

Quorn: c30 still at the station.

Melton Mowbray: 4 on the roundabout at the junction of Edendale Road & Heather Crescent at 10:30.

Glenfield: 2+ at Mill Lane Industrial Estate at 09:30.

Tuesday 11th

Rutland Water: drake Ring-necked Duck, Fishponds; redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: 4 redhead Smews south of the island.

Quorn: 17 Waxwings still at the station this afternoon.

Monday 10th

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Bittern & 3 redhead Smews, Lagoon 3.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 230 still opposite the Dishley Grange layby.

Quorn: c70 at Quorn & Woodhouse station this afternoon.

Sunday 9th

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters still on north side, all showing well off the dam mid-afternoon at least.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch in Egleton car park, 14:25 at least; Long-tailed Duck, Common Scoter & 2 Scaup, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 7 Smew (3 drakes) south-west of the island.

Loughborough: White-fronted Goose with Greylags in flooded field opposite Cotes Mill (half a mile east of the town on the A60 Nottingham Road) at midday.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: up to c170 in and around Sainsbury's car park, but mobile; 120 at the Dishley Grange layby on the A6 at 14:30; 25 by the railway bridge on Terry Yardley Way mid-morning.

Quorn: c30 still around Quorn & Woodhouse station, Woodhouse Road this afternoon, but mobile.

Elmesthorpe: 24 in the village hall car park in Wilkinson Lane, early afternoon at least.

Kegworth: 8 or 9 briefly in a garden in Whatton Road at 10:15.

Saturday 8th

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters still on the north side.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck still off the plantation, also drake Smew.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch in Egleton car park till 08:55, then no further sign all day; 1st-winter Glaucous Gull flew over Lagoon 3 this evening, also 5 redhead Smew & 1 Ruff; Great Northern Diver off Whitwell this morning; Long-tailed Duck still, North Arm; 4 Snipe, Lagoon 1.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: c150 still at the Dishley Grange layby on the A6 at 12:30, also 50 in Sainsbury's car park & 50 near the Go Outdoors store on Bishop Meadow Road.

Stoney Stanton: 17 still in Station Road by the school.

Coalville: 13 at Stephensons Industrial Estate off the A511 (also present yesterday).

Whitwell: 3 briefly this morning.

Bagworth: 1 at Hanson brickworks near Desford Ponds.

Friday 7th

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters still on the north side this morning, but not all together. One of the females seems to stay away from the male and the other female, and is often more distant.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch still in Egleton car park this morning.

Eyebrook Res: 2 drake & 1 redhead Smew from the hide.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 250+ still near the Dishley Grange layby on the A6, also 33 at Dishley Pool.

Quorn: c150 by the station this afternoon.

Stoney Stanton: 40 by the school in Station Road.

Hinckley: 25+ still in the TNT car park opposite McDonald's on the Northern Perimeter Road.

Thursday 6th

Rutland Water: Bearded Tit & Bittern, Lagoon 3; Great Northern Diver off Whitwell; 2 Black-necked Grebes, South Arm 3; female Common Scoter, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck still, also 2 drake Smew from the hide.

Swithland Res: 1st-winter male & 1 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam/Kinchley Lane.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 250+ near the Dishley Grange layby on the A6, north of the town.

Quorn/Woodhouse: 25 in roadside trees by the station.

Stoney Stanton: 23 still by the school in Station Road.

Wednesday 5th

Swithland Res: 1st-winter male & 2 female Velvet Scoters still off the dam, also Lesser Spotted Woodpecker behind the dam this afternoon.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch still in Egleton car park.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck off the island, also 2 drake Smew off the dam.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: 240 in trees in the Dishley Grange layby on the A6 this afternoon. Also 19 in Sainsbury's car park at 11:10.

Stoney Stanton: 25 by the school in Station Road.

Hinckley: 17 near McDonald's on the Northern Perimeter Road this morning, in the TNT car park.

Caldecott: 9 in Main Street.

Melton Mowbray: 1 in Norfolk Drive at 08:15.

Tuesday 4th

Swithland Res: 1st-winter male & 1 female Velvet Scoter still off the dam.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch again in Egleton car park this morning at least; Long-tailed Duck & female Common Scoter, North Arm; 2 Scaup, Fishponds; Scaup, South Arm 3; redhead Smew, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck still.

Oadby: Harrier sp flew over Brabazon Road allotments at 12:30.

Waxwings:

Groby: 80 in Glebe Road.

Shepshed: c60 in Fairway Road.

Loughborough: 50+ by the Diam UK factory in Jubilee Drive for the last few days; 21 at corner of Belvoir Drive & Pytchley Drive mid morning, and 6 in trees behind the Tesco garage in Park Road.

Leicester: 19 in Hinckley Road between Dunster Street & Minehead Street this morning, but flew towards New Parks at 09:25.

Stoney Stanton: 19 still by the school in Station Road this morning.

Caldecott: 11 in Main Street.

Broughton Astley: 10+ in Murray Close early afternoon.

Whetstone: 5 still on Springwell Lane at Browns Lane junction.

Monday 3rd

Swithland Res: 1st-winter male & 2 female Velvet Scoters showing well off the dam mid-morning, also female Common Scoter earlier. NB shooting near the viaduct is causing some disturbance.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch still in Egleton car park this afternoon; Bittern & 3 Smew (1 drake), Lagoon 3.

Waxwings:

Shepshed: 100+ at junction of Fairway Road and Trueway Drive for third day.

Loughborough: 38 in Park Road this afternoon, but mobile.

Leicester: 30 in Dunster Street, off Hinckley Road.

Groby: 22 in Glebe Road near Elizabeth Woodville primary school.

Morcott: 14 at SK921010, early afternoon.

Stoney Stanton: 19 still in Station Road by the school.

Whetstone: 5 in Springwell Lane this morning.

Enderby: 3 at the Police HQ.

Sunday 2nd

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters (1st-winter male & 2 females) on the north side still, but mobile.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck still off the plantation, also drake Smew.

Rutland Water: no sign of Hawfinch all day; Long-tailed Duck & female Common Scoter, North Arm, plus male & female Scaup, Fishponds; 3 Bitterns, Lagoon 3 this evening.

Hicks Lodge: 1 Short-eared Owl.

Waxwings:

Loughborough: c120 along footpath off Clowbridge Drive this afternoon.

Shepshed: 100+ at the junction of Fairway Road & Trueway Drive.

Morcott: 12 this morning, also 2 by the A47 just east of Uppingham.

Stoney Stanton: 12 by the school in Station Road.

Earl Shilton: 10 in the Co-op car park this morning.

Stretton: 10 in a garden this afternoon.

Donisthorpe: 2 in Buttercup Avenue this morning.

Saturday 1st

Swithland Res: 3 Velvet Scoters on the north side, viewable from Kinchley Lane/dam.

Eyebrook Res: drake Ring-necked Duck still off the pantation, also drake Smew between the island and the fishing lodge.

Rutland Water: Hawfinch near Redshank hide this morning, but not seen in the car park (contrary to yesterday's news - apologies); Long-tailed Duck & Common Scoter, North Arm; Red-breasted Merganser, Old Hall.

Waxwings:

Shepshed: c100 this afternoon (no details of exactly where).

Loughborough: 40+ in Kenilworth Avenue near Coe Avenue at 14:00, also 1 in Warwick Way at 10:00.

Morcott: 38 in roadside hedge 500m north of the village on North Luffenham Road, but flew off and not relocated.

Groby: 28 in Leicester Road this morning.

Stoney Stanton: 20 in Station Road near the school at 09:00.

East Goscote: 11 at the junction of Craftsmans Way & the A607.

Enderby: 1 at the Police HQ still.
