Wednesday 31st

Rutland Water: 11 juvenile Shags on the tower off Normanton. Also drake Long-tailed Duck still, Lyndon + Black Tern, & 2 Garganey, North Arm. Egleton reserve: 3 Great White Egrets still; Redstart behind Dunlin hide; Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3; 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 8 Greenshanks, 5 Dunlin, 7 Green Sandpipers, 3 Common Sandpipers, 3 Ringed Plovers & 6 LRPs.

Longmoor Lake: Osprey flew south at 12:05, also Whinchat & Wheatear.

Tuesday 30th

Rutland Water: 6+ Shags at the southern end of the dam. Also Whinchat & Redstart, Lagoon 1.

Longmoor Lake: 2 Whinchats & 1 Wheatear.

Cossington Meadows: Greenshank, Hobley Lake then Lower Loor.

Wymeswold: 3 Wheatears in ploughed field just south of the village.

Monday 29th

Thornton Res: Gannet sadly found dead this morning.

Cropston Res: Marsh Harrier flew north-west this afternoon, also 3 Greenshanks & 2 Common Sandpipers.

Grimston: male Redstart in paddocks opposite the grain dryer.

Brentingby: Tree Pipit flew over this morning.

Brascote Pits: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Beacon Hill: 3 Wheatears east of the summit.

Sunday 28th

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still, Teal Hide; Red-necked Grebe, Black Tern & 3 LRPs, North Arm; Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 3; Great White Egret, Lagoon 1 + 7 Greenshanks, 13 Ruff, 2 Common Sandpipers, 8 Green Sandpipers & 10 Ringed Plovers around the reserve.

Groby Pool - male Redstart along the footpath between the pool and Newtown Linford this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: Whinchat, Black Tern, Greenshank, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper & Ringed Plover.

Cropston Res: Black Tern this evening, also 6 Greenshanks, 6 Green Sandpipers, 2 Common Sandpipers & 2 Ringed Plovers.

Shawell A5 Lagoons: Marsh Harrier this afternoon.

Saturday 27th

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still, Teal Hide, also 3 Great White Egrets, 6+ Greenshanks, 8 Ruff, 4 Black-tailed Godwits & 6+ Green Sandpipers around the reserve.

Cropston Res: Black Tern.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Whinchats, Ruff, Greenshank & Dunlin at the inflow.

Friday 26th

Cropston Res: 3 Redstarts and 1 Whinchat along Causeway Lane, also Green Sandpiper at the inflow and 3 Greenshanks from the dam.

Thornton Res: Gannet still present late afternoon at least, also 3 Redstarts in hedge along the stony bank (east end of reservoir).

Rutland Water: 16 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 3 + 3 Great White Egrets flew over this evening.

Eyebrook Res: Whinchat, Greenshank, Ruff & 2 Dunlin.

Great Glen: Wheatear at the end of Orchard Lane.

Thursday 25th

Thornton Res: Gannet still present.

Rutland Water: Garganey & drake Scaup, Dickinson's Bay, North Arm.

Shoby: Tree Pipit briefly this morning then flew south.

Wednesday 24th

Thornton Res: Gannet still, flying around occasionally and being hand-fed fish at the duck feeding area! (photos to come tomorrow)

Rutland Water: Long-tailed Duck still off Lyndon, also Black Tern, Black-tailed Godwit & Greenshank; Wood Sandpiper, 8 Ruff, 6 Green Sandpipers, 3 Black-tailed Godwits & Greenshank, Lagoon 3; 2 Great White Egrets & 3 Greenshanks, Lagoon 1; Whimbrel, 3 Greenshanks, 7 Ruff, 3 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper, North Arm.

Hicks Lodge: Redstart & Wheatear.

Tuesday 23rd

Thornton Res: Gannet still present at dusk, flying around occasionally and has been seen feeding, so seems to be recovering!

Rutland Water: summer-plumaged Red-necked Grebe, North Arm, off the end of Tim's road (presumed returning bird from last winter). Also Wood Sandpiper, Lagoon 3.

Bradgate Park: male Redstart & Whinchat around the Anstey gate.

Grimston: juv Cuckoo.

Melton Mowbray: Wheatear at the Mars Petcare factory.

Monday 22nd

Watermead CP North: juv White-winged Black Tern still, King Lear's Lake early morning, then flew off south and no further reports all day.

Thornton Res: Gannet still present at 18:00 at least.

Rutland Water: 2 juv Black Terns, South Arm.

Bradgate Park: at least one male Redstart still around the Anstey gate.

Sunday 21st

Watermead CP North: juv White-winged Black Tern, mostly on King Lear's Lake, but also went to Worcester Lake, WCP Birstall for a while. Nearby, Ruff & 3 Green Sandpipers, Wanlip Meadows, and Garganey at Cossington Meadows on the Tern Pool.

Thornton Res: adult Gannet on the water this evening, viewable from the car park, also Osprey over.

Croft Hill: Pied Flycatcher.

Rutland Water: drake Long-tailed Duck still from Teal hide, Lyndon reserve; 2 Curlew Sandpipers, Shallow Water hide + 5 Black Terns & Arctic Tern, South Arm & 2+ Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Cropston Res/Bradgate Park: 4 Redstarts around the Anstey gate, also Whinchat along Causeway Lane & 3 Greenshanks, LRP, Green Sandpiper & 6 Common Sandpipers around the reservoir.

Saturday 20th

Rutland Water: 12 Black Terns, lagoon 1 this evening, (also 1 in South Arm 3 earlier); drake Long-tailed Duck still east of Teal hide, Lyndon reserve; Wood Sandpiper, 3 Garganey, 6 Greenshanks, 15 Green Sandpipers, 4 Red-crested Pochards & 3 Common Sandpipers, Lagoon 3, and 3 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint, 4 Greenshanks, 3 Ruff, 2 LRPs, Dunlin & Green Sandpiper.

Cropston Res: 3 Greenshanks & 5 Common Sandpipers from the dam.

Friday 19th

Rutland Water: drake Long-tailed Duck still east of Teal hide, Lyndon reserve; Wood Sandpiper, Garganey, 4 Ruff , 6 Greenshanks, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 20+ Green Sandpipers & Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3; 2 Black Terns, Lapwing hide; 2 LRPs, Lagoon 4, also 3 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Stanford Res: Little Tern.

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier, 4 Greenshanks, 4 Dunlin, 2 LRPs & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Cropston Res: 4 Greenshanks, 3 Common Sandpipers, Green Sandpiper & Ringed Plover all at the inflow.

Thursday 18th

Rutland Water: drake Long-tailed Duck still east of Teal hide, Lyndon reserve, also 4 Great White Egrets still around Egleton reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Little Stint, Greenshank, Ruff, Green Sandpiper, LRP, 3 Dunlin & Marsh Harrier.

Leighfield: 2 male Redstarts in hedge along the northern track this morning.

Wednesday 17th

Rutland Water: drake Long-tailed Duck still east of Teal hide, Lyndon reserve, also 3 Great White Egrets, Marsh Harrier & 2 Ruff, Lagoon 1; 3 Greenshanks, 2 Ruff, 3 Black-tailed Godwits & 11 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Wanlip Meadows: Greenshank, Ruff & 8 Green Sandpipers.

Tuesday 16th

Rutland Water: drake Long-tailed Duck off Lyndon Centre (NB this bird is in wing moult and completely flightless, so will be around for a while!), also 2 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1; 2 Turnstones, Lagoon 4; 2 Garganey, 4 Red-crested Pochards, 6 Greenshanks & 17 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3 + a Ferruginous Duck hybrid, Lagoon 2.

Cropston Res: 1 Common Sandpiper.

Monday 15th

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier, 4 Ruff & 2 Dunlin.

Beacon Hill: Redstart on the east side of the hill.

Rutland Water: 3 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1.

Sunday 14th

Rutland Water: 2+ Wood Sandpipers reported, also Garganey & 4 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Cropston Res: juv Med Gull on railings at the dam this morning, also 3 Common Sandpipers.

Wanlip Meadows: Greenshank, 2 Common Sadnpipers & 9 Green Sandpipers.

Saturday 13th

Rutland Water: Marsh Harrier, 2 Great White Egrets & Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 1; female Red-crested Pochard, South Arm 3; Great White Egret, 2 juv Marsh Harriers, Greenshank, 2 Black-tailed Godwits & 16 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; LRP, 8 Ringed Plovers & Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; Green Sandpiper, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: Greenshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper & 3 Dunlin at the inflow.

Wanlip Meadows: LRP. Common Sandpiper & 10 Green Sandpipers.

Abbey Park, Leicester: Wheatear at the Abbey ruins.

Friday 12th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper with 12 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3, also at least one Great White Egret around the reserve.

Thursday 11th

Rutland Water: 4 Great White Egrets around the reserve today, also Garganey, Greenshank & Black-tailed Godwit, Manton Bay; 2 Marsh Harriers (Lagoon 1 & 2); 2 Black-tailed Godwits, Greenshank & Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 3; 8 Ringed Plovers, 3 Common Sandpipers & 3 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 1.

Luffenham Airfield: 1 Wheatear.

Wednesday 10th

Rutland Water: A very unseasonal Redwing today, seen well by one of the reserve staff along the service road behind Mallard hide.

Little Stretton: Redstart along the road to the car park at the pool.

Syston: Marsh Harrier flew over the A46 near the Hobby Horse roundabout from Watermead CP North towards Cossington at 10:10.

Leighfield: Tree Pipit flew over.

Tuesday 9th

Rutland Water: Garganey, Manton Bay; 2 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1 & a third bird on Lagoon 6; Marsh Harrier, lagoon 1; Greenshank & 12 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3.

Leighfield: 1 Redstart.

Eyebrook Res: 6 Black-tailed Godwits & 1 Dunlin.

Monday 8th

Thornton Res: 2 Redstarts from gate at the eastern end of the dam, in first hedge up the slope.

Rutland Water: 2 Great White Egrets & Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 1; Whimbrel & 2 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow; Marsh Harrier flew over South Arm 1 towards Manton Bay; female Red-crested Pochard, Goldeneye hide.

Eyebrook Res: 4 Black-tailed Godwits & 4 Dunlin at the inflow.

Saturday 6th

Eyebrook Res: Great White Egret at the inflow, also Marsh Harrier over early afternoon, 3 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers & 2 Common Sandpipers.

Rutland Water: 2 Great White Egrets still, Egleton reserve (present at the same time as the Eyebrook bird); Little Stint, Lagoon 4.

Friday 5th

Rutland Water: 2 Marsh Harriers, Lagoon 1; 2 Whimbrels, Black-tailed Godwit & 3 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow.

Thursday 4th

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 1; 4 Garganey, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: Black-tailed Godwit & 5 Dunlin.

Cropston Res: 3 Common Sandpipers on the dam.

Wednesday 3rd

Rutland Water: 2 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1.

Tuesday 2nd

Rutland Water: probably both Great White Egrets still around the reserve, but mobile - reports today from Lagoon 3, Lagoon 6 & Heron Bay. 2 Garganey, 1 Whimbrel, Turnstone & 4 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Marsh Harrier & Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 1; also 6 Green Sandpipers & 7 Common Sandpipers around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier this morning, also 3 Dunlin & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Monday 1st

Rutland Water: Great White Egret, Lagoon 6; 2 Garganey still, Lagoon 4; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 1; 4 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow; Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 5.
